PROJECT INTRODUCTION

1.1 Preamble

In general, the purpose of an amplifier is to take an input signal and make it stronger.

Amplifiers find application in all kinds of electronic devices designed to perform numbers of

functions. There are many different types of amplifiers, each with a specific purpose. This

project is specified on audio amplifier. Audio power amplifiers are those amplifiers which are

designed to drive loudspeakers.

Scientifically, a public address system is an electronic device in which a small-signal

vibration is amplified using pre-amplifier(s); this signal (audio frequency signal) is then

amplified to a level required to drive a loudspeaker by a power amplifier.

1.2 Problem Statement

This project is to overcome communication problems that usually occur in areas where it

is hard to find a device for making important announcements or speeches so that everyone can

listen precisely to what the speaker is talking about. This simple project may also be used by

lecturers in lecture halls to bridge communication gap between the lecturers and student in a

lecture, as shouting during lectures may be very exhausting.

1.3 Project Objectives

The objective of this project is to study, design and develop an amplifier that can be used

in a small environment. It is also must be simple and can be carried around easily by its user,

using outlet power supply, this project should not be bulky in size.

1. Acquaint with the use of basic Electronic Components and devices

2. Strengthen capacity for a better audience

3. Increase or magnify a low energy level signal (in this case sound).

4. Improve communication
5. Understand Basic Principles of Amplifiers.

1.4 Scope of Work

The scope of work as necessitated by the design and construction of this project has to do

with the following: The flow for the complete system are

 Power supply

 Microphone

 Pre amplifier

 Tone Controls.

 Power Amplifier

 Speakers

 Measurement /Testing methods

 Casing/Coupling.

After designing all sub circuits, the PCB of each sub circuit is constructed. The project ends up
with the combination of all sub circuits and troubleshooting should there be any problem.
CHAPTER TWO

DESIGN METHODOLOGY

2.1 Introduction

This stereo amplifier uses low cost, and widely available components. With the addition

of a few passive components it is possible to build a low cost stereo amplifier featuring a good

impulse response, ideally suited for connection to a small speaker. The project here features a

simple design for easy construction; it is relatively inexpensive. The design is based on a

LM1875T. The amplifier system been described here produces 20 Watt power at very low

distortion. The described Amplifier has inputs for audio sources such as CD player, MP3 player

and FM/AM tuner. Other controls for the described amplifier system are Bass, Treble and

Volume control. The amplifier puts out a surprising amount of power, considering that it runs

from a 16V AC 1.25A transformer.

One reason this system performs so well is that it is based on the National Semiconductor

LM1875T 20W audio amplifier IC. This IC has inbuilt thermal protection so that even if you

abuse it or short out its output, it won’t be damaged. The power amplifier circuits are very close

to the Students’ Amp circuit but inevitably there are component differences to provide different

gain and so on.

2.2 Features and Specifications of the Audio Amplifier System

Total harmonic distortion plus noise: typically <0.03%

Signal-to-noise ratio: 93dB (96dB A-weighted) with respect to 10W into 8Ω

Channel separation: –72dB at 1 kHz

Input sensitivity: 500mV RMS for 10W into 8Ω

Input impedance: 8.3kΩ

2.4 Tools and Equipment

The following tools will be used during the construction of the electronic units.

1) Soldering Iron

2) Soldering lead

3) Disordering pump

4) Side cutter

5) Digital multi- meter

6) Sand paper

7) Electrician knife.
CHAPTER THREE

ADVANTAGE AND APPLICATION OF THE PROJECT

3.1 Advantages

 Easy to Convey Messages Over Large Areas

 Emergency Announcements

 Provide automatic messaging in case of fire

 P.A System can easily cut through background noise

 P.A System provide effective communication

3.2 Application of the project

Communicating a message effectively to an individual or a large volume of people is essential,
especially in emergency cases or big gatherings in an outdoor venue. Equipment and the system
you need to deliver your message must be taken into heavy consideration.

To transmit audio in any setting whether it is in school, in the office, auditoriums, or stadiums,
we have the Paging System and Public Address System (PA System).
