12.

INSPECTION GUIDELINES:
a. All inspections shall be conducted at an eye to surface distance of 1.2 ±
0.1 m (3.94 ± 0.33 ft), and 90 degree viewing angle under 1076 lux (100
ft.-candles) daylight illuminant.

b. Required Inspection Equipment

As a minimum, paint repairer shall have the following inspection


equipment in order to verify the quality and conformance of paint repairs
against specification:

 Thickness Meter
 Gloss Meter
 Caterpillar Color Standards

c. Desired Inspection Equipment

The following inspection equipment is desirable in order to verify the


quality and conformance of paint repairs against specification:

 Pencil Hardness Test Kit


 Paint Adhesion Test Kit
 APR14941 Orange Peel Standard

d. Warranty Inspection Reporting Requirement

At the completion of paint repairs, the Paint Inspection Report to be


completed by a suitable qualified inspector. Refer to Illustration 3 in
""Inspection Report" " Section.

13. Touch Up Procedure


a. Remove all grease, oil, dirt, corrosion, and old paint then completely dry
the surface.

b. Sand - to a finely tapered feather edge so that the substrate cannot be


detected from the finish by touch.

c. Clean - remove all sanding residue then completely dry the surface

d. Pretreatment - in cases where the sanding has reached the substrate,


pretreatment needs to be reapplied to all areas that are larger than 25 mm.

e. Prime - add primer before painting to the sanded area and beyond the
feathered edges

f. Cure - allow primer to cure

g. Sand - lightly to a smooth level surface

h. Clean - remove all sanding residue then completely dry the surface
i. Paint - apply topcoat

j. Cure - allow paint to cure
