ST.

EZEKIEL MORENO (1848-1906)


Life/ Biography:
 April 9, 1848- He was born in Alfaro, Logrono, Spain and he
come from a family who was poor in material goods but
committed to faith.
 1864- He joined the Recollect Congregation of the Order in
Monteagudo (Navarra)
 1865- Professed his vow as an Augustinian Recollect
 1871- Ordained as priest in Manila, Philippines
 1876-1880- He served successively as pastor of Las Piñas
and Sto. Tomas in Batangas
 1885- Called back to Spain and he served as Rector of the
College and Novitiate of Monteagudo
 1888- Devoted himself to missionary activity and also
brought renewal to the Augustinian Recollect communities in the
region where he was living and working
 1893- He was well known for both his missionary spirit and personal virtues
 1894- Named as the first Vicar Apostolic of Casanare, and ordained bishop of Pasto
 1906- Remained his title as the Vicar Apostolic of Casanare
 1906- He was diagnosed by cancer caused him to reluctantly return to Spain for treatment
 1906- It was also in this year where he died
 1975- Beatified by Pope Paul VI
 1992- Canonized by Pope John Paul II

ROLE AND CONNECTIONS WITH THE OAR


 Member of the Augustinian Recollect
 Before being a member, he followed the example of his Brother, Eustaquio which then he
received the habits of Augustinian Recollect in the monastery of Monteagudo, Spain.
 He was a missionary and military chaplain with an expedition to the island of Palawan,
sponsored by the Spanish government.
 He was named pastor of the church of Calapan and vicar provincial of the Augustinian
Recollects on the island of Mindoro
 His dream was to reactivate the mission of Casanare, which, in former times, had been an
area evangelized by the Augustinian Recollects of Colombia

contemplation attracted a group of like-minded souls around him. These he
directed with charity and wisdom along the path of sanctity.

5. He ventured with pioneer spirit to the sparse and distant settlements of this region
known for its plains and rugged mountains.

7. After his term, as prior, divine providence opened a new horizon of his restless
missionary energies.

the guidance of the Holy Spirit wish to respond with new zeal, new means and a
new expression to the great challenges which confront the Church of Latin
America.

ST. AMBROSE (339-397 A.D.)
LIFE/ BIOGRAPHY:
 339 A.D – He was born on Belgica, Gaul ( presently known
as, Trier, Germany)
 370 A.D – He was promoted to the governorship of Aemilia-
Liguria
 374 A.D- He lived at Milan, Italy and was acclaimed as
Bishop of Milan.
 384 A.D - He secured the rejection of an appeal for
tolerance by pagan members of the Roman senate, whose
spokesman, Quintus Aurelius Symmachus, was his relative.
 385-386 A.D - He refused to surrender a church for the use
of Arian heretics.
 388 A.D – He rebuked the emperor Theodosius for having punished a bishop who had
burnt a Jewish synagogue. He also baptized St. Augustine when the latter left Milan.
 390 A.D - He imposed public penance on Theodosius for having punished a riot in
Thessalonica by a massacre of its citizens.
 397 A.D- He died this year
 He was also known as Aurelius Ambrosius
 He is beatified and canonized in pre-congregation.

 St. Ambrose converted St. Augustine and became his influencer.
 It is through his preaching, Augustine reevaluated himself and was forever changed.
 St. Monica, Augustine's mother, loved Ambrose "as an angel of God who uprooted her
son from his former ways and led him to his convictions of Christ."
 Ambrose drew from the intellectual reserves of pre-Christian philosophy and literature
to make the faith more comprehensible to his hearers including St. Augustine.
 At the Catholic Church's Fifth Ecumenical Council – which took place at Constantinople
in 553, and remains a source of authoritative teaching for both Catholics and Eastern
Orthodox Christians – the assembled bishops named Ambrose, along with this protege
St. Augustine, as being among the foremost “holy fathers” of the Church, whose
teaching all bishops should “in every way follow.”
