The Concept of Winning as Mirrored in the movie 12 Strong

Introduction

The battlefield is a scene of constant chaos. The winner will be the one who
controls that chaos, both his own and enemies.
The movie entitled 12 Strong confers about the 12 soldiers who went to a feud
and claims victory within 3 weeks or 21 days. It is directed by Nicolai Fuglsig a Danish
film director and photojournalist. He graduated at the Danish School of journalism. It is
written by Peter Craig an American Novelist and screen writer. He graduated at

“12 Strong” is a novel based on a true story and an American action war drama
film, composed by Doug Stanton that exposes the events of American soldier’s lives
before and after 9/11. In the wake of the September 11 attacks, captain Mitch Nelson
leads a US Special Forces team into Afghanistan for an extremely treacherous mission.
Once there, the soldiers develop a tough partnership with the Northern Alliance to take
down the Taliban and its al-Qaida allies. Outgunned and outnumbered, Nelson and his
air forces face overwhelming odds in a fight against a ruthless enemy that takes no
prisoners. It reflects the reality of having a chaos under the different powers of individuals.
That result to a force and bloody war to stop the negative effect of invading once territory
and to have its own true sense of freedom.

Objectives

The paper will be able to:

 Perceive the disparity of being a warrior to being a soldier.


 Exemplify the concept of winning through the incidents shown in the film.
 Determine how brotherhood is used to achieve victory.
The following are the Lines, incidents/scenes where it shows the concepts of
winning in the movie 12 strong:

“Your Goal is keeping us alive.”-Nelson was told by his troops

“The only way home is winning.”-Nelson

“Trust takes time for the leaders to build. You cannot rush it” ----- In the
movie it took several battles and many days for trust to be built between
Captain Nelson and his fellow combatant General Dostum.
Brotherhood

The time when Dostum told Nelson that “Greatest weapon in history is this
(pointing at his chest), I don’t have soldiers in my army, only warriors. Stop
being a soldier start using this (pointing at Nelson’s chest) and you can be
a warrior too.
BRAVERY: Scene where Nelson and his troops rushed closely to the strongest
weapon of the Taliban using only their horses and guns/riffle in able for Captain
Nelson to know the coordinates and in order to wipe it out.

Interpretation:
Bringing up rear, the concept of winning in the Movie 12 strong is Bravery, trust,
and by applying their own Principles and Beliefs in life. They won the feud because of
their teamwork, bravery, Principles, Beliefs, Promises, brotherhood and by putting all the
heart to the feud and to their doings. They are not afraid to get hurt and wounded; they
are not afraid to fight in the dirt. They pinned the goal wherein to claim victory in just 3
weeks /21 days only and there is a statement where it is said that if they didn’t win the
war, the conflict and battles will continue over the years.
