Insufficient power supply hugely affects the daily living of many
Filipinos. For achipelagic states such as the Philippines, it is important to evaluate centralized and decentralized approaches to electricity supply and sustainable electricity (Bertheau and Cador,2019). This is an alarming issue which needs to be solved rightaway. In the Philippines, fossil fuels are the sources most industries rely on because it can supply huge energy needs. According to Quitoras, Abundo and Danao (2018), the Philippines is currently addressing its growing concerns on how to meet its ballooning energy demand in parallel to having a good energy mix in terms of its renewable and non-renewable resources. According to the Department of Energy (DOE), roughly 76% of the Philippines' energy sources came from fossil fuels and the remaining percent was mainly attributable to the renewables. Although these can power uo large facilities, these are still unsustainable and were very costly to be the contiuous supply of the enormous power needs. Aside from being unsustainable and expensive, it releases carbon dioxide (CO2) when burned resulting to the worsening of global warming. As a response, the government enacted two legislations to promote renewable energy (RE) deployment in recognition of the advantages of the use of RE as the country's energy source. These were the Republic Act (RA) No. 9513 or the Renewable Energy Act of 2008 which aims to promote the development, utilization and commercialization of renewable energy resources and for other purposes; and the RA 9367 otherwise known as the Biofuels Act of 2006, is an act to direct the use of biofuels, establishing for this purpose, the biofuels program, appropriating funds therefore and for other purposes. However, there remain issues and criticisms on the promotion of RE tecnologies and on implementation of the RE laws (Rosellon,2017). Thus, it is needed to take a step towards this issue in the small scales of the community-barangays. Amongst all renewable resources, solar power is the best optiom because it is completely renewable and the costs of installations are outweighed by the money saved in energy bills from traditional suppliers, and it produces no harm and emits no greenhouse gas and is pollution free (Renewable Resources Coalition,2016). The above insights help the proponents to conceptualize a feasible and environmental-friendly solution in the micro-levels to address the insufficiency of power supply. This Project Innovated Go-lamps to meet Necessity in Terms of Electricity (IGNITE) will be benefited by the community to have altenative electric supply that produces no harm to the environment. Eventually, we will not only end up with an efficient power supply but also to an Earth that's healthy and alright.
