Friends approved with thanks the annual report
of the Peace and Social Concerns Committee.
Committee members (singly or together) have
worked with the Virginia Interfaith Center
for Public Policy, the Friends Committee
on National Legislation, a prison ministry,

and American Indian affairs. They have also
worked to distribute trigger locks to help reduce
scholarships, Puerto Rican hurricane relief, and
Friends approved with thanks the annual report
of the Ministry and Oversight Committee. This
committee works to support movements of the
spirit within individuals, committees, and the
Meeting as a whole, and to help Friends share
their spiritual experiences. It also helps to plan
weddings and memorial meetings.
Meeting approved with thanks the annual
report of the Meeting Cares Committee, which
offers comfort, support, and encouragement to
Goose Creek Friends, and helps to welcome
newcomers. They have also organized Meeting
support for Mobile Hope, and maintain the wall
of photos in the large gathering room.
The new Technology Subcommittee of the
Library Committee needs the support of other
committees as they endeavor to determine Goose
Creek’s technology/internet needs.

Friends approved a donation to the organization
with which Mimi Westervelt works, Friends
of Loita Forest. This will include support for
microfinancing of Kenyan women’s small
businesses, workshops in forest ecology, and
other urgent concerns. Mimi will be returning to
Kenya this month.
The Religious Education Committee will offer
a Q & A session about First Day School and
teaching First Day School for all Friends and
friends to be held on August 25 at the rise
of Meeting.
The Archive Committee has been asked to
coordinate with the Lincoln Preservation
Foundation and possible also the Loudoun
Freedom Center to further understand the

Concerns Committee:
On June 8, Loudoun County hosted its
4th Annual Wear Orange Community Gathering.
Goose Creek Peace and Social Concerns
members joined Moms Demand Action For Gun
Sense in America, Congresswoman Jennifer
Wexton, and other elected officials (state and
local) to honor those who have died in gun
violence and to take a stand on gun safety. Will
McCabe, Sheila Kryston, and Peggy King gave
away seventeen trigger locks to attenders of the
event. Marcia and Rich Weidner also attended.

activism, and some through community. As we
continue on our path with Friends, we inevitably
encounter the other two and perhaps integrate

plenaries, workshops, interest groups, Junior
Yearly Meeting, through fellowship at meals,

Call for Hand-crafted Items
First Day School has come up with a plan
for a fundraiser to benefit the Meeting House.
The kids are very enthusiastic! In order to
bring this to fruition, we need the help of
all of our talented artisan Friends to create
one-of-a-kind items to be sold at the tentative
October 5th event. A few of the children’s
ideas were any sort of fiber art (including
items that are knitted, crocheted, quilted,
woven, cross-stitched, embroidered, etc.),
woodcraft, blacksmith ironworks, pottery,
glasswork, soaps, and baked items
(including cakes, cookies, muffins). SUNDAY, August 18
At the event, there will be a raffle or silent AT 4:00 PM
auction for the quilt the children helped to Goose Creek Meeting

“Monthly meeting”: A monthly meeting is the basic governing body for Quakers.
It holds regular meetings for business and is responsible for membership and
marriages, and for the meeting’s property. Goose Creek is a monthly meeting.
Programmed Quakers (i.e., those who meet in programmed worship services,
often with a pastor) might call their monthly meeting a church.
