By looking at discussion above, the researcher believed the important of

conducting a classroom action research which purpose to improve students’s

speaking skill the researcher was interested to choose the location at SMA Negeri 1

Panyabungan Utara thats is with the topic “improving student’s speaking skill

through debate technique in the grade of XI SMA 1 Panyabungan Utara”.

B. The Identification Of The probem

Based on the background above there were some promblems of student’s

speaking skill as follow :

1. Students’s speaking was low,

2. Students’s vocabularyess mastery and grammar were low

3. Student’s used mother tongue and indonesia language when they studied

english, and

4. Teacher’s strategy was less suitable in teaching speaking skill in the

classroom.

C. The Limitation of the problem

Here the researcher limits the problem of the research like IMPROVING

STUDENT’S SPEAKING SKILL THROUGH DEBATE TECHNIQUE AT

THE GRADE OF XI SMA 1 PANYABUNGAN UTARA.

D. Formulation of problem

The problem that will be discussed in this study can be stated as follows:

1. How is the implementation of debate technique to improve students’

speaking skill?

2. How is the improvement of students’ speaking skill after being taught using

debate technique?

3. How is the process of teaching and learning speaking by using Debate

Technique AT THE GRADE OF XI SMA 1 PANYABUNGAN UTARA?

4. What are the teacher’s problems in the process of teaching speaking

through Debate Technique AT THE GRADE OF XI SMA 1

PANYABUNGAN UTARA ?

5. What are the students’ problems in the process of learning speaking

through Debate Technique AT THE GRADE OF XI SMA 1

PANYABUNGAN UTARA?

E. Objectives of the Study

The objective can be stated as follows:

1. To describe the implementation of debate technique to improve students’

speaking skill.

2. To identify how much students’ speaking skill improvement after being

taught by using debate technique.

F. Objective of the Research

Referring the formulation of the problem above, the objective of the research

were as follows:

1. To know and describe the teaching and learning speaking process through

Debate Technique

2. To know the teacher’s problem in teaching speaking through Debate

Technique

3. To know the students’ problems in learning speaking through Debate

Technique

G. Limitation of the Study

To limit the scope of study, the writer will only discuss such as follows:

1. This study will be done AT THE GRADE OF XI SMA 1 PANYABUNGAN

UTARA. The researcher chooses of XI SMA 1 PANYABUNGAN UTARA

as object of research.

2. This study is about the use of debate technique to improve students’speaking

skill. It is done to find how much the improvement of students’ speaking skill

after being taught using debate technique.

H. Significance of the Study

1. The students In this study the students are expected to be able to improve

their speaking skill by using debate.

2. The teachers This study is hoped to help teachers to get alternative ways in

their teaching process, especially by using debate.

3. The readers By reading this thesis, the readers are expected to catch any

information in order to improve their knowledge.

4. The writers This thesis helps the writer to develop her knowledge and

experience in composing academic writing.
