CURRICULUM

A curriculum is the totality of student experiences which occur specifically in the educational process.
Based on the responses gathered from the respondents, it was remarked that Technical Writing should be
added in the course syllabus. Students were aware of the need in technical writing competency for their
future career. Technical writing course shall be introduced to the polytechnic education system since the
competency in technical writing is essential in job industries, rather than placing it as a topic or sub-topic
in the Communicative English course syllabus (Isnin, 2017). Moreover, facilitators have to put extra
focus on stylistics, for it is a subsequent growth of the discipline of stylistics has led to an enhanced
understanding of responses to literature and language in the classroom (Carter, 2010). At the same time,
there must be an assurance for the better enforcement on the curriculum.

As concerns, exposure to SHS teaching experience and strategies and private institution is very necessary
as part of curriculum development, since the first employment the graduates will be able to secure is in a
private one. Additionally, some mentioned to be focused on practice and demonstration teaching. This
practice is an important component of becoming a teacher. It grants student teachers experience in the
actual teaching and learning environment (Ngidi & Sibaya, 2003:18; Marais & Meier, 2004:220; Perry,
2004:2). Grammar is also part of it for the betterment of the students’ learning.

INSTRUCTORS AND PROFESSORS

An organization’s success depends on hiring and retaining satisfied employees (Cordeiro, 2010). Faculty
members play a vital role in the success of higher education institutions (Cordeiro, 2010). Through
increased job satisfaction, greater employee retention helps colleges and universities achieve adequate
faculty allocations (Froeschle & Sinkford, 2009). Instructors or Professors being usually an expert of a
particular field and a teacher of highest rank should be hired as a well-equipped, reputable and passionate
faculty that would undergo heavy screening for their credibility and strict evaluations while employed in
the institution, as some of the respondents’ responses. Furthermore, they have to join trainings to improve
themselves and to understand and achieve the changing needs of the students. It must be compulsory
because with this, school administrators and teachers acquire new skills in general knowledge, special
field, pedagogy and they learn to prepare teaching plans according to students’ and community’s needs
(Genç, 2015).

Besides, faculties should change and adapt to doing new activities rather than the traditional method of
the basic “pen-and-paper” method and so called “reporting” on topics the students have no knowledge
about. The modern teaching methods, strategies and tools should adopt and integrate Information and
Communication Technologies on the premise that the latter are adapted to each student population’s
interests, abilities and ambitions. Individual differences should always be taken into account while
student-teacher interaction needs to be encouraged in all cases. By doing so, the learning process becomes
more effective and interesting while students will be able to broaden their knowledge, develop key skills
and competencies to remain competitive in the market place as well as meet industry demands for well
trained, creative and productive employees. (Nurutdinova, et.al, 2016)
QUALIFYING EXAM

Many students choose their major based on their academic ability (Beggs et al., 2008). This is where the
qualifying examination takes place. This tool is used specifically to test knowledge across one or more
general fields of study. Based on the responses gathered, they said that qualifying examination in English
is a must. It should be strengthened, and must have a stricter guideline and higher standards as well.
Students may be unsure about a career path or may be unable to choose between two career paths. There
are tools for students in college and high school to help them choose a career. These tools include career
tests, career counseling, job fairs, and job shadowing. Career tests usually offer a wide range of questions
that will pool all of a student’s interests and group them into possible job fields and majors. Career tests
can show where students need development in skills or experience (Trusty et al., 2005)

COMMUNICATION SKILLS AND PUBLIC SPEAKING

Communication is an essential part in languages. (Taha & Rezeq, 2018). As part of 21st century skills, it
was mentioned that institution should add classes focusing on practicing the enhancement of the students’
communication skills and their work ethics as well. In the present time, scholars have considered the
development of students’ proficiency in speaking as one of the factors that affect students’ performance
and competence at the academic life (Taha & Rezeq, 2018). Moreover, the institution must have to
encourage the students to speak the language of English for some of them felt that they are really
competent to speak and communicate easily, while there were some students did not have the ability to
speak due to their weak level in English (Taha & Rezeq, 2018). Saturating them in activities such as being
an emcee for a certain events or activities in the school. is indeed helpful to increase their self-confidence.
Therefore, it was necessary that the university must seek to change the current assessment strategies, and
rethink more practical ones (Taha & Rezeq, 2018).
