Lesson Plan in Grade 7 - English

I. Objectives
General Objective:
 Note details, sequence, and relationships of ideas and events (EN7VC-
II-a-1/2)
Specific Objectives:
At the end of the lesson, students are expected to:
1. Note significant details in the story
2. Sequence events as they happened in the story
3. Empathize with the character by suggesting appropriate actions
II. Subject Matter
A. Topic: Noting and Sequencing Events (The Centipede by Rony V. Diaz)
B. Key Question: How can we value our family in times of conflict?
C. Reference: K to 12 Learner’s Material
D. Materials: PowerPoint presentation, laptop, television
E. Strategies: 4As, Group Work, Computer-Assisted Instruction, Journal
Writing
F. Value Focus: Understanding and Sensitivity

III. Learning Activities

A. Preliminary Activities
1. Greetings
2. Arranging chairs, picking up of dirt (if applicable)
3. Checking of Attendance
- The class beadle will be asked to report the class attendance.
4. Review (Picture Analysis)
- Pictures will be flashed on screen.
- Select student to name the picture.
The PowerPoint presentation uses hyperlinking that makes it interactive.
Review Activity:
1. Picture of a man.
2. Picture of a woman.
3. Picture of an animal
4. Picture of a place.
5. Picture of an occassion.
5. Motivation – Picture Analysis
- Picture of centipede will be flashed on screen.
Processing Questions:
a. What is in the picture?
b. How do you usually react to a centipede?
6. Unlocking of Difficulties (Word Centipede)
Match difficult and unfamiliar words in the story with their synonyms. The said
words written on colored paper, will be pasted on a big drawing of a centipede.
Then have students use the words in their own sentences.
7. Presentation of the Objectives
- Objectives will be flashed on screen.
- A student will be asked to read each of the objectives.
8. A Short reminder of class rules on: a) caution in working for group
activities; and b) cooperation and participation.
B. Lesson Proper
1. Activity (Think and Search like a Centipede)
- The story was previously given as assignment to read.
- Students will work in group of five (5) to arrange the strips of paper with printed
significant events as they happened in the story.
- Each group will choose a leader, secretary and a reporter.
- All groups together will be given 10 minutes to work on the activity and prepare
for group presentation.
- An area will be assigned for each group; chairs will be arranged in a small
circle.
- For maximum participation, there will be a leader, secretary/recorder,
discussant, material managers, and a reporter.

Activity Guide:

 Each group should discuss and brainstorm on how should strips of paper with
events in the story be arranged logically.
 Strips of paper should be fastened on the manila paper.
 First group to display their output on the assigned area of the room will be the
winner.

2. Analysis (Group Reporting)

- Each group reporter will discuss the finished output to the whole class.
Guide Questions:

 What happened to the chartacters in the story?

 Tell them the way they happened in the story.


3. Abstraction

 The teacher will discuss further important points in the story?


 Higher order thinking questions may be given.

 What kind of animal is centipede?


 Why do you think they are called centipede?

 From the name alone “centipede”, how many legs does it have?

4. Application

 Multiple Intelligences Integration (Differentiated Activities)


 Each group will present important details following the correct
sequence of the story.
Group 1 – Draw important events in the story on five-six (5-6)
boxes of a film strip and label them accordingly.
Group 2 - Dramatize significant details in the order they
happened in the story.
Group 3 – Present an advertisement that portray family values.
Group 4 - Choose a graphic organizer that will show the
sequence of events in the story.
Group 5 - Launch a campaign on TV on dealing siblings’ conflict

Evaluation Criteria:

 Content - 30%
 Creativity - 30%
 Performance - 20%
 Cooperation - 20%
TOTAL - 100%

Generalization:

 How should conflict in the family be dealt with?


IV. Assessment – Paper-Pencil test

Instructions:

A. Answer the following questions briefly about the story.

1. Who are the siblings in the story?


2. What did Berto do to his sister?
3. Why is Delia mad at her brother?
4. What is the connection of the title to the story in general?
5. How is the conflict resolved in the story?

B. Number the following items from 1 – 5 to show logical sequence of events.

V. Assignment (Writing Activity)

Write a short paragraph telling the proper steps in solving conflict/s in the
family.

 Group 1 - Who are the characters in the story?
How are they related to each other?
 Group 2 - What conflict exists between them?
Why do you think Delia hate her brother so much?
 Group 3 - Do you think Eddie’s actions at the end of the story are
justified? Why or why not?
If you were in the same situation, would you do the same?
Why or why not?
 Group 4 - If you were the father, what would you do to guide your
children and to help them maintain a harmonius relationship?
 Group 5 - Why is the story entitled such?
What is the title’s significance to the development of the
story?
