INTRODUCTION
Education is very important to a Filipino family. Parents work hard to give the best for
their children. They really work hard to send their children to school and finish their education
as long as they can. But the problem is their family can’t afford to support their study.
Therefore, a student may force to work and study hard so that when the time comes they can
have a better job and a better future.
Many people are familiar with the concept of “Work Life Balance”. The ongoing struggle
to keep a healthy split between times spent on your professional time. (Polytechnic University
of the Philippines, 2018). A working student needs to participate better in the school to get a
high grade while working. Being a working student is very hard, they need to give their 1005 of
attention when they are in school and 100% of their strength when they work. Being a working
student is much different especially on the schedule. Their duties as a working students are
hard while they’re still in the school. They have different time for working and give a time for
studying.
According to Bernard Fojas “Para po makaahon sa kahirapan at para maiangat ang aming
buhay. Kasi kung waya ako di Working Student indi ako kaeskwela it maado ag baka pati
maging pabug-at pa ako sa ako mga maguyang “(To rise above poverty and to lift our lives. If I
wasn’t a working student I wouldn’t be able to study and I might just be a burden to my
parents.)
Darlena Cunha: Updated June 29, 2018. Taking on a part-time job while pursuing degree
is hard work, but the benefits are typically greater than the amount of a paycheck. Students
who work during their college careers may develop better time-management skills than their
counterparts because they have to apply it to their daily lives. They earn money that can be
used for fun or for tuition, while gaining experience in the workplace that will be attractive to
future employers after graduation.
Let’s reach success, by Lidiya K (2019). A recent research study conducted by
Georgetown University concluded that over 14 million students work while still enrolled in
college. This represents around 70% of American college students working while studying, a
staggering, statistic to say the least.
The high cost of college education around the world has prompted millions of students-
especially those in the low-income bracket-to-look for full time jobs that can help offset the
tuition fees.
Although most jobs don’t pay students enough wages to cover their living expenses and
tuition fees, these wages to a long way in reducing the deficit. A lot of people think that having
a job while studying will be very stressful but that is really not the case. If you have a goal and a
mission, you will definitely be able to balance working and studying.
Bernard also added: “ Ako ra ay nakakaistudyo it maado galling yang ray ay minsan
ako’y nakakapasok it late dahil ako ay nagtatrabaho pa it trabahong bayay”. (For me I can study
well, but sometimes I came late because I’m still doing housework)
A working student can do better in school. You can see the most working student are
responsible because they are matured enough to be a better person.
A Filipino student who work can deprive their self to sleep time is gold. They need to
balance their work and study, they need to start their day as early as possible to have school
project and then going to work.
Curtis and Shani (2002) Believed that student who are working part-time will most
likely miss lectures and feel that they could achieve higher grades had they not been working.
For that reason, universities should aware of contemporary student lives. They should
introduce on element of flexibility as a means of structuring assignments and course
requirements to support this (Curtis, 2007). Positively, perhaps students might acquire personal
transferable skills, enhance employability and increase confidence in the world of work (Watts
& Pickering, 2000).
However, negatively, students who are working part-time tend to achieve poser marks
compared to their classmate who are studying full-time. Given that part-time working students
is a common phenomenon, Jogaratnam and Bucharon (2004) suggested that universities have a
moral requirements to more effectively understand and manage the stressors experienced by
students studying full-time and working part-time. Perhaps providing suitable trainings for
student would be an alternative.
This research aim to provide encouragement and motivation to all students especially
those financially distressed to pursue and finish a college degree in order to become
competitive in the future and be able to realize their goals and aspiration. It may also provide
learning’s experiences and information to other student who are not working.
Teacher- This study will help a teacher in a way that they can`t worried in the grades that are
late because there is help from other student/researchers. And also it can help them to achieve
their expectations in the students.
Researchers- This study will help the researchers to achieve and reach their objectives. It can
also serves as a guide to attain their main goals in studying this phenomenon on a student. And
also it will serve as a background as they pursue their studies in college. The data we gather will
serves as basis to the next researchers.
The present study and the profile and the academic performance of Selected Working
Student of Senior High School of CNHS SY: 2019-2020. This study limits only the students who
are currently enrolled and who are also working and previously working. Only those working
students are allowed to participate in the research.
The researchers limits their study by interviewing their informants who are selected
working student of CNHS. The academic performance of working student did not affect due to
time management, they can balance their study while working. They have still time to study.
