Informational and Engineering Manual

Prometheus Class Tactical Cruiser

USS Jaresh-Inyo NCC- 74922
Launched Stardate 2009.256 and Commissioned Stardate 2010.257
Major General Gary Hollifield, Jr., Commanding Officer
Lieutenant Charles Robinson, Chief Engineer
Introduction

I remember when I was first invited to join this ship a little over a year ago by our
CO; he told me our mission was to transport the President of the United
Federation of Planets in a Prometheus Class Cruiser. I accepted the invitation
and joined this ship and crew, but to be honest I hadn’t heard of a Prometheus
Cruiser so looked into it and found it was a very powerful ship. It has the latest
and greatest technology available and packs a very big punch and the amazing
Multi-Vector attack mode that has countless possibilities.

But my interest was piqued and thus started this over a year long research
project on this class of ship. In this manual we’ll cover the armaments, defensive
systems, and support systems of this vessel and how it all interacts to make the
ship as great as it is. We’ll also learn some its remarkable history, to learn where
it came from and why it’s needed.

I‘ve enjoyed Star Trek for many years and read a lot of books, mostly from an
engineering standpoint. I was an aviation hydraulics technician in the United
States Navy, and now for a job I service and repair all types of aircraft carrier
materials handling equipment; cranes and forklifts mostly.

So now that I have the ship operations down my research is far from over. My
next endeavor will be to figure out all the tasks and maintenance needed, who
does what and when so to speak, things like preventive maintenance, damage
control, and fire fighting; the little things that keep a ship in fighting shape.

What you will learn as I have learned is we have an AWESOME piece of

weaponry; it’ll take us to the fight and bring us back to tell the tale. For our
writers in the crew, all this information should help with your story lines.
And hopefully I’ve included enough pictures for you. If not there are plenty of
them on the web.

Something else I found out is that there are a lot of variances with the
information about the Prometheus, so I put together this information so as a crew
we could be on the same page so to speak.
Acknowledgements

I have to thank any and all who wrote or created the pictures, models, and
information throughout the WEB, as well as all of the fan fiction Trek sites where
there’s a lot of imagination and gifted artists, plus STARFLEET the International
Star Trek Fan Association and their support links.

I have to thank my Commanding Officer MGN Gary Hollifield, Jr. for the invite
and letting me be the Chief Engineer aboard his ship. And of course a Great Big
Thanks to Gene Roddenberry for giving all of us his dream of Star Trek.

One note before beginning this manual: I’m not going to get into the power
requirements for any systems, there was just way to many numbers to make an
accurate assessment of these requirements. If any power input or output
numbers are mentioned it’s because it’s from a known good source such as the
Starfleet Advanced Design Bureau (www.asdb.net) or similar. If you need these
numbers pick a site and use theirs because you can pick a dozen and have that
many different answers.

May all who read this have Fair Winds, Following Seas, and a star to guide by.

Chief Engineer, USS Jaresh-Inyo
Ships History and Development

When the USS Odyssey was destroyed in late 2370, war with the Dominion
looked inevitable. TACFLEET took a frank assessment of their position and the
results did not bring them any comfort. Dominion polaron weapons had easily
penetrated the Odyssey’s shields and the few times the ship could target and hit
the Jem`Hadar vessel, even the type 10 phasers were surprisingly ineffective.
TACFLEET knew that the Federation needed a vessel designed for one
purpose- To hunt down and destroy any known hostile starship.

TACFLEET also knew that such a vessel would seriously upset the balance of
power within the Alpha Quadrant. It was decided to develop, construct and test
the new vessel in secret. TACFLEET provided the funding to Star Fleet
Intelligence who could provide the secrecy needed.

Boeing-Mitsubishi’s Phantom Works was named prime contractor, as they had

experience in building “Black” projects for Starfleet. There was some debate
about what to classify the ship. Battlecruiser was considered but it was worried
this might “tip the hand.” Instead, the long discussed Tactical Cruiser
nomenclature was assigned. There has yet to be a design as radical as the
Prometheus, which introduces the concept of “Multi-Vector Assault Mode” to
starship design. The Prometheus can split into 3 fully warp capable tactical
platforms that can then attack the target from 3 different angles, or while one
section gets “High Priority Passengers” out of harms way, at high warp, the
other 2 sections could engage the hostiles.

These figures show the ship in Multi-Vector Attack Mode, and how the ship
separates into 3 fully independent warp capable vessels.
Each section of the ship has its own bridge for command and control in MVAM.
The main bridge is on the primary or saucer section and the secondary and
tertiary sections have battles bridges similar to the Defiant class bridge.
Command of each section would be divided between the senior officers
assigned, normally CO=Primary, XO=Secondary and either OPS or
Engineering=Tertiary. This is not set in stone and may be changed at the
discretion of the CO or Mission parameters.

These figure shows the Main Bridge and one of the Battle bridges

The Prometheus class employs all the latest in Federation automation systems
and therefore requires a markedly small crew; the ship can be operated with as
few as 4 officers. The system installed on the Prometheus is the M-16 Tri-core
Bio-Neural Gel Pack-Isolinear 3 with LCARS interface software. The layout is
Distributed processors and distributed core for faster processing and also gives
each section of the ship its own core for MVAM.
This figure shows 1 of 3 computer cores

These figures show the core components for processor speed used in the M-
16 computer systems installed aboard the Prometheus. Starting left to right,
Bio-Neural network cell Packs and Iso-Linear Chip sets.

Assisted by the new MK ll version EMH, first deployed aboard Sovereign and
Intrepid classes. Holo-Mitters located through out the ship allow the EMH to
operate anywhere needed aboard the ship.

This figure is of the Mobile Holo-Imitter

Facilities on board allow for the embarkation and training of Marines and other
ground forces, as such the ship is a natural for assault and interdiction duties
since we always have combat troops aboard, also handy for the President when
he needs something handled discreetly.
The Prometheus is the first ship since the Peacekeeper class to mount 4
primary nacelles and unique to any vessel in mounting 3 separate warp cores
driving a total of 6 nacelles. In normal flight mode or docked mode only the 2
directly feeding the upper and lower nacelle pairs are in operation, only when the
ship is in Multi-vector (MVAM) does the third core, mounted between the 2
impulse engines come online to feed the 2 extendable nacelles located on the
top and underside of the primary hull.

These figures show a Galaxy class nacelle and a Sovereign class nacelle the
nacelles installed on the Prometheus are similar to the Sovereign design

The 2 cores and 4 nacelles located in the secondary and tertiary sections, when
in docked mode resulted in the fastest speed ever attained by ANY Federation
starship-a stupendous warp 9.999.

The ship is rated for a steady cruise speed of warp 9.9, easily making it the
fastest ship in the fleet. Maximum speed has not been calculated as of yet.

In this figure you can see the 4 primary warp nacelles.

Here is a good shot of the Primary or saucer section with good views of the
nacelles both extended and retracted, the nacelles are located center and
aft and only extend for operation in MVAM.
These figures show the matter-antimatter reaction process

The Prometheus is equipped with all the latest Federation weaponry and
defensive systems, starting with 14 type Xll phaser strip arrays and 5 quantum
burst fire launchers; These are when the ship in docked mode. When the ship
separates into MVAM there are 18 type Xll phaser arrays and 7 quantum burst
fire launchers available. Something to remember the type 12 phasers until the
.Sovereign class were only installed on large installations such as space stations

Quantum torpedoes being fired from a Sovereign class

Her defensive systems include Auto-Modulating Regenitive shield arrays. This
unit is an upgraded version from the Sovereign and Intrepid classes; ablative hull
armor type 3 and a regentive hull matrix, upgraded from the Intrepid class, gives
her unparalleled hull strength. Regenitive shields absorb the incoming fire and
incorporates it to another shield layer, while the Ablative armor absorbs the
weapon impact and disperses it to decrease its damage impact. This makes the
Prometheus the most powerful ship in known space, even when compared to the
Federations mighty Akira class battle cruiser.

This figure shows the Ablative Generators, you can also see sensor pallets
and the Type 12 Phaser array strips. This shot is of an Intrepid class ship

A note about Ablative armor, when in combat this system will open a small portal
for the weapon that is firing while maintaining its armor protection for the rest of
the ship.

In this figure you can see the ablative armor being deployed
This figure shows the Shielding systems in operation

As you can see, Starfleet used only the best of its equipment on the
Prometheus, using systems proven in earlier designs and configurations and
packing them in a relatively small package and then enhancing those
technologies with further upgrades and capabilities that surpassed even what
they had in mind.

Accidental Live Fire Exercise

During her maiden trails; Romulan agents of the Tal Shiar stole the prototype
killing the small crew during her maiden flight from Deep Space 5 to Utopia
Planitia. Through help from the EMH’s of the Prometheus and Voyager the ship
was recovered but not before she had heavily damaged several Starfleet
vessels; a Nebula class, which some say was destroyed but that has not been
confirmed; Heavily damaged an Akira class battle cruiser and 2 Defiant class
vessels while being attacked by Romulans and the only command and control
were 2 EMH’s and yet still managed to destroyed a Romulan D’Deridex class
Battle cruiser. Although she was heavily damaged herself, she was able to be
returned to Utopia Planitia for repairs and further test flights before
commissioning in 2376 at Beta Antares Shipyards. It was during this incident that
EMH from Voyager made contact with Starfleet and informed Starfleet of the
Voyagers status

Various science pallets as directed by mission requirements.
The computer core is set up as 3 cores the primary is on the saucer section and
2 sub cores in the secondary and tertiary areas of the ship and known as
Distributed Processing and Distributed Cores. Again this makes for faster data
processing basically by dividing the tasking and freeing up data space in the
core.

Holo-Mitters installed for EMH operation ship wide
Ships Aux Craft
The Prometheus has 2 primary shuttle bays just like the Intrepid, in the
secondary section of the ship. We also have a large hanger facility in the tertiary
section of the ship to support a full Marine squadron. Since aux craft can change
depending on mission parameters I’ve decided to just give you an aux craft chart
showing what’s available to us for this duty.

As you can see we have a lot of craft to choose from, and the next figure is of
the Delta Flyer 2 this a great addition to any aux craft fleet. I didn’t cover the
Marine Aerospace craft, their in a league of their own and with a full squadron on
board, I feel for anyone who tries to commit any aggression in our patrol area,
we in one ship bring a large force to bear.

This station gives you the heart and soul of the vessel

The following views will give you an idea of the deck layout of this vessel
Remember these layouts are of the proto-type variant and are only similar.
Our Ship the U.S.S. Jaresh-Inyo has been specifically modified for use by the
President United Federation of Planets as he deems necessary.
Note a cloaking system has been developed for the Prometheus, all spaces and
hard parts have been installed, an operational cloaking device could be
completed in a few days at space dock.
The following figures show some of the spaces aboard the Prometheus
Class Vessel

Standard Main Bridge of the Prometheus class

And now the Views of our main bridge; I’m glad I found these pictures.
I think these photos give you a better feel for the ships Main Bridge.
You can also see how compact the space is compared to a Galaxy.

Secondary or Battle Bridges

Battle Bridge’s on the Secondary and Tertiary sections of the ship, notice how
very similar the battle bridges are to the Defiant bridge, that’s because it’s the
very same design with some upgrades for operation on the Prometheus class as
secondary command and control during MVAM operation.

A lot of the spaces are very similar to the Intrepid class
Since the Jaresh-Inyo is the President’s transport he does have a stateroom and
office aboard. They are located on the primary or saucer section 1 deck below
the main bridge. Whenever the President is aboard he will have armed Marines
for security and patrolling the deck he occupies.
Below is a figure of his office space its right next door to his stateroom

Various views of the Prometheus
This concludes the basic information about the Prometheus. I hope you enjoy it
and it helps with your information needs.

Remember this ship is designed to be adaptable and can be configured for many
different mission parameters. And of course this being a fictional ship a little
imagination can go a long way. I just wanted everyone to know what we have to
work with.

Amendments will be incorporated to the back of this manual as they are

approved by the Commanding Officer. Crew Members should inform their
department officer for input and submission to the CO.
