(Insert Sport Name) Summary

Insert a pop-up picture of people playing your
sport on this page.
Write/type a paragraph explaining your
sport. Include the following details.

 What is the object of the game? How do you

play?
 Where it is played (court, field, pool)
including size of playing area?
 Who plays (teams, individuals) and how
many on each team?
 What type of equipment is used?
 One interesting fact about your sport that
you RESEARCHED.

Newton’s Three Laws of Motion

Insert a pop-up picture of Isaac Newton on this
Newton’s First Law: Write a definition in your own
words. Be sure you mention objects and rest, objects in motion, page.
and unbalanced forces.

Newton’s Second Law: Write a definition in your own Headings

words. Be sure you mention what happens to objects of equal
mass when unequal force is applied. OR, mention what happens to
objects of different mass when equal force is applied. Make sure
you use the word “acceleration” in your description.

Newton’s Third Law: Write a definition in your own

words. Describe an “action force” and an “equal and opposite
reaction force”.

It will be very important to get these correct. If you have questions,

see Mrs. Blake.

Newton’s First Law in (Insert Sport Name) Insert a pop-up picture of objects in motion and at
rest in your sport.
 Using complete sentences, explain how
Newton’s First Law applies in your sport.

 Make sure you have two examples.

 One example should be an object at rest and

the second an object in motion.

 Identify the unbalanced force that causes

the object to stop moving or move.
Example:
A tennis ball will remain at rest on the court until
the unbalanced force of a player’s hand picks it up
and moves it.
A tennis ball is hit by a player. The ball will stay in
motion until it hits the unbalanced force of the
opposing player’s racquet.

Newton’s Second Law in (Insert Sport Name)

Insert a pop-up picture of objects in motion in
your sport.
 Using complete sentences, explain how
Newton’s Second Law of Motion applies in
your sport.

 Make sure you have at least two examples.

 One example should include objects of equal

mass meeting different forces. How do they
accelerate?

 The second example should include objects

of different mass meeting the same force.
How do they accelerate?
Examples:
A baseball hit with a swinging bat will accelerate
more than a baseball that is bunted because the
swinging bat has more force.

If equal force is applied to a baseball (more mass)

and a t-ball (less mass), the t-ball will accelerate
more.

Title of
Page Insert a pop-up picture of objects colliding in your
sport.
Newton’s Third Law in (Insert Sport Name)

 Using complete sentences, explain Newton’s

Third Law in your sport.

 Make sure you have at least two examples.

 Each example must include a description of

the action and equal and opposite reaction
force.

Examples: Two baseball players run for a pop fly.

They run into each other and both fall on the
ground. The action force is their bodies hitting and
the reaction force is their bodies falling.

A soccer ball hits a goalie’s hands. The action is

the ball hitting the goalie’s hand. The reaction
force is the hand hitting the ball in the opposite
direction.
