FADE IN:

1. EXT. MAGIC STREET SHOW - DAY

A MAGICIAN performs a magic trick in front of a large crowd

of families. The children all gasp in amazement as he pulls
out a white rabbit from his typical black magician's hat.

FREDDIE, sat cross-legged in front of his mother, stares

intensely at each magic trick, squinting, closely observing
the MAGICIANS every movement. His face, albeit confused,
shows his brain slowly attempting to mechanically solve each
magic trick.

Seeing the crowd slowly starting to lose interest, the

MAGICIAN quickly whips out a pack of playing cards, instantly
performing another trick. FREDDIE adjusts his position on the
ground, getting closer to the action this time, intensely
observing. Suddenly, FREDDIE sees a spark, almost like magic,
somehow fly from the MAGICIAN'S right hand as he composes the
trick. FREDDIE blinks twice, attempting to ignore it. Until,
another spark, from the MAGICIAN's left hand, fly's towards
the ground. FREDDIE's eye's widen.

FREDDIE:
Mum! Mum!

FREDDIE's MUM momentarily looks up from her phone.

FREDDIE'S MUM:
Hmm?

FREDDIE:
Mum, I just saw... well... magic come
from the magicians hand?

FREDDIE'S MUM:
Yes, magic.

FREDDIE covers his mum's phone screen with his hands, trying
to grab her full attention.

FREDDIE:
No, mum seriously. Real. Magic.

FREDDIE'S MUM:
That is great Freddie.

FREDDIE's MUM gently removes FREDDIE's small hands from her

phone, slouching back into her previous position, eyes glued
to the small phone screen.
Freddie sighs in frustration, acknowledging that his mother
isn't paying attention.

FREDDIE watches again, fixing his eyes onto the MAGICIAN's

hands, concentrating. Another spark. FREDDIE dramatically
jumps up, shocked. He looks at the MAGICIAN, they make eye
contact. The MAGICIAN notices that FREDDIE saw the spark, he
begins to look worried. FREDDIE notices. The MAGICIAN,
becoming frantic, begins to rush his magic trick.

MAGICIAN:
Okay, that's all folks.

The crowd cohesively moan in disappointment, the children

beginning to collectively whine, demanding more.

The MAGICIAN, with a nervous expression on his face, begins

to guiltily pack up his equipment, constantly glancing over
at FREDDIE, making awkward eye contact. He leaves. The crowd
dissipates.

2. DINNER TABLE

FREDDIE sits at the dinner table silently, alone. There are

three place mats. His mum places his dinner in front of him,
and his sister VIOLET's dinner on her place mat. She looks at
VIOLET's empty seat, sighs and looks up at FREDDIE. They both
begin to smile, mutually acknowledging their next action.

FREDDIE'S MUM & FREDDIE:

Viioollettt!

They subtly laugh. FREDDIE's mum sits down, noticing

FREDDIE's unusual lack of energy as he lethargically picks at
his food with a fork. She looks worried.

FREDDIE'S MUM:
Everything okay sweetie?

FREDDIE:
(moodily mumbling under his
breathe)
You missed it.

FREDDIE'S MUM:
You know I can't hear you when you
talk like that.

FREDDIE:
You missed it. The magic.
FREDDIE'S MUM:
Is this about the magician again.

FREDDIE:
Mum I promise, I saw magic. Real magic
this time.

FREDDIE'S MUM:
(Unconvincingly)
I'm sure you did sweetie.

She looks at the third empty place Matt in frustration.

MUM:
Violet! Your dinner is going to get
cold.

We hear VIOLET running frantically down the stairs, running

to her seat at the dinner table, sitting down. She looks up
at her mum, cheekily smiling as her form of apology.
FREDDIE's MUM sighs. VIOLET attempts to ignore her mum's
agitation, turning her head towards FREDDIE, noticing his
depleted energy. She nudges him.

VIOLET:
Whats up champ?

Freddie remains silent. FREDDIE's mum attempts to clear the

awkward atmosphere.

MUM:
Today, Freddie saw magi-

FREDDIE instantly springs up, interrupting his mum,

embarrassed.

FREDDIE:
Mum... Stop... It doesn't matter.

VIOLET looks confused, eager to know.

VIOLET:
Tell me!

FREDDIE's MUM looks at FREDDIE in sympathy, quieting down.

The dinner table is silent.

VIOLET:
(Teasingly)
Ah... Did you see magic again? For
real this time?
FREDDIE:
Shut-up, no. I didn't.

FREDDIE and VIOLET begin to bicker, VIOLET blatantly enjoying

winding FREDDIE up. VIOLET flies food across the table at
FREDDIE with her fork.

VIOLET:
(Sarcastically)
Magic!

FREDDIE'S MUM:
Stop it Violet! That isn't very lady-
like.

FREDDIE:
Yeah Violet that isn't very lady-like.

VIOLET:
(Imitating a whiny voice)
Yeah Violet that isn't very lady-like.

FREDDIE childishly towards his mum for back-up, waiting.

FREDDIE'S MUM:
Stop it, Violet.

VIOLET:
(Frustrated)
Least I don't believe in magic still.

FREDDIE:
I don't?

He stares at his food, pondering.

3. EXT. STREET - DAY

The following day, FREDDIE, FREDDIE's MUM and VIOLET walk

down the same street as the day before. They pass the
MAGICIAN's spot, FREDDIE glaring up at him with suspicion.
The MAGICIAN's worried eyes, spark FREDDIE's interest once
again. His mum and sister wander off to an ice-cream truck.
The MAGICIAN, once again, begins to pack up early. FREDDIE
looks over at his mum and sister and then over at the
MAGICIAN. He decides to quickly follow the MAGICIAN.

The MAGICIAN glances back over his shoulder, increasing his

pace. FREDDIE matches his pace, speeding up behind him. The
MAGICIAN looks back, scared, disappearing around the corner.
VIOLET notices FREDDIE's missing. She briefly sees him scurry
around a corner and impulsively runs to follow him. She
catches up, seeing FREDDIE, gazing off into the distance,
confused, looking everywhere for the MAGICIAN. He turns
around, and is momentarily startled by VIOLET's presence.

FREDDIE:
Please tell me you saw that

VIOLET appears speechless. FREDDIE stares at her.

FREDDIE:
Do you think he's really... magi-

VIOLET:
Magic? He can't be...

Right?

VIOLET and FREDDIE both walk back to their mum, struggling to

hold three ice-creams, a Chocolate Magnum and two 99's.

FREDDIE'S MUM:
Where have you guys been?
(Unconvincingly)
I've been looking all over for you's.

VIOLET stops and sees a flyer with the MAGICIAN on it,

Flyer reads: Martin the Magician. 7PM. The Playhouse, 36 St

Andrews Street. TONIGHT.

A red sold out tape is draped across the flyer. VIOLET and
FREDDIE both look at each other, pausing.

4. INT. FREDDIE'S HOUSE - NIGHT.

FREDDIE lies in bed, eyes wide open. Staring at the ceiling,

thinking. Suddenly, his sister bursts into the room, hushing
him.

VIOLET:
Quick. Get dressed. We don't have much
time.

FREDDIE is confused, but before he has time to say anything,

his sister pulls him out of his bed.

FREDDIE:
What's going on?
VIOLET:
We're going to the magic show.

FREDDIE:
But we don't have tickets? It's sold
out.

VIOLET pauses. Thinking.

VIOLET:
Well we'll wait till after the show
and follow him home. That way we can
see if he really is...

What we think he is.

FREDDIE's eye widen. Rushing, he starts changing out of his

Luke Skywalker pajamas's into a pair of jeans and a white
top. VIOLET starts placing bundles of clothing under
FREDDIE's blanket, constructing a small, fake human shape.
They look at each other.

VIOLET:
(Whispering)
Ready?

FREDDIE:
(Whispering back)
Ready.

4. INT. LIVING ROOM - NIGHT

VIOLET and FREDDIE are at the top of the stairway, FREDDIE's

MUM watching TV in the living room downstairs. They look
worried, scanning the long stairway and close proxemics
between the stairs and slightly open living room door.
FREDDIE attempts the first step. The floorboard begins to
creak. He looks back at VIOLET, cringing. She eggs him on
further. He attempts another step, inciting an even louder
creaking noise. They both freeze.

FREDDIE'S MUM:
Violet?
(Frustrated)
Are you still awake?

VIOLET and FREDDIE look at each other, not knowing what to

do. They pause and wait.
VIOLET:
(Clearing her throat)
Just getting some water mum.

FREDDIE'S MUM:
Okay, well be quick. It's late.

VIOLET impulsively whisks FREDDIE onto her back.

VIOLET:
Sure thing mum.

She runs down the stairs with FREDDIE on her back abruptly
turning into the kitchen and beginning to clang glasses
together, turning the tap on and off, mimicking the scenario.
FREDDIE still on her back, is quietly giggling.

VIOLET stands on the bottom step, loudly running up and down

on the spot.

VIOLET:
Night mum!

FREDDIE's MUM is silent.

5. EXT. THE PLAYHOUSE - NIGHT

Crowds begin hectically leaving The Playhouse, chattering

among themselves about the show, discussing the tricks.

VIOLET grabs FREDDIE's hand, pulling him through the crowds,

weaving and dodging through everyone. They dip their heads,
sneaking in through the large doors, the security guards
oblivious.

6. INT. THE PLAYHOUSE - NIGHT

The MAGICIAN is staring at himself in the mirror, taking off

his stage make-up, depressed. VIOLET looks at FREDDIE, who
looks disappointed and sad himself as he comes to the
realization he is yet again, just another typical human
being. His head droops and he begins to leave, sitting alone
in The Playhouse's red seated rows.

FREDDIE sits alone, feeling sorry for himself.

VIOLET runs onto the stage, trying to make FREDDIE laugh.

VIOLET:
Ladies and Gentlemen! The One, The
Only, Vanishing Violet!
She purposely runs off stage in a goofy manner, pretending to
vanish behind the red velvet curtains. She peaks out from
behind them, directing her eyesight towards FREDDIE.

FREDDIE doesn't laugh, maintaining his upset posterior and

facial expression.

VIOLET begins to look upset herself as she looks at FREDDIE

slumped in his chair. She heads back to the changing room
where the MAGICIAN was.

A few minutes go by. FREDDIE sits silently, sulking.

VIOLET:
Help!

FREDDIE ignores her, assuming she is joking.

VIOLET:
(Impatiently)
Freddie! Help me! Please!

FREDDIE frantically gets up out of his seat and runs into the
dressing room.

7. INT. DRESSING ROOM - NIGHT

FREDDIE runs in, frantically. Seeing VIOLET lying on the

ground helpless. FREDDIE, shocked, starts running towards
her. He abruptly stops as he see's the MAGICIAN emerging from
the darkness, overpowering him, standing between him and
VIOLET.

FREDDIE steps back in hesitation. Nervously looking at

VIOLET, unsure of what to do.

VIOLET's eyes signal to FREDDIE the wand lying on the counter-

top near him. FREDDIE looks back at the MAGICIAN, slowly
edging towards the wand. He attempts to distract him, whilst
he works on grabbing the wand.

FREDDIE:
Look Mr, we won't tell anyone that we
know you're really magic.

MAGICIAN:
You already know too much.

FREDDIE impulsively runs and grabs the wand, pointing it

directly at the MAGICIAN. The MAGICIAN begins to back away.
MAGICIAN:
Okay, let's be hasty now.

FREDDIE, becoming more confident, keeps pointing the wand

towards him.

FREDDIE:
Stay back!

FREDDIE helps VIOLET up off the ground. VIOLET grabs the wand
off him.

VIOLET:
Scherzo-lano!

A puff of smoke appears and the MAGICIAN vanishes into thin

air. Leaving his black cloak flying into the air and slowly
settling on the ground.

VIOLET and FREDDIE both stare at each other in shock.

FREDDIE:
What did you do?

VIOLET:
I'm not sure.

They're silent.

VIOLET:
Thanks for saving me.

FREDDIE dramatically smiles with pride, grabbing his sisters

hand, leading her out of the door with a bounce in his step.

VIOLET
Oh wait! I forgot something.

She runs back into the dressing room, signalling FREDDIE to

wait. She smiles as the MAGICIAN as he climbs out from a
hidden trap door. He looks up at her, smiling.

VIOLET:
Thanks for helping me.

MAGICIAN:
Of course. I don't understand though,
why did you need to convince him magic
still exists?

VIOLET smiles slightly.

VIOLET:
A magician never reveals her secrets.

FADE TO BLACK.
