STEP 1: HINGE SIZE
Selecting the correct hinge is determined
by the width and weight of the gate or
door.
a. Safe working loads for all Hobson
Hinges are shown overleaf;
b. Standard or short gate hinges should
be used for gates or doors over
900mm.
In the image shown, a standard gate
hinge is used for a gate that is 1800mm
wide and within the safe working load of
STEEL FRAME 1200kg.

STEP 2: HINGE STYLE
The hinge style selected is determined
by:
a. The materials used for the framework
or posts (timber or steel);
b. The materials used for the gate or
door (timber or steel);
c. The preferred method of fixing -
coach/tek screws or welding.
In the image shown, a standard gate
hinge is used with tek screws to both a
steel post and steel framed gate.
STEP 3: LEFT OR RIGHT
Golden Rule - standing on the inside of
gate or door as per the image above, the
hinges on the left are Left Handed Hinges
and on the right, Right Handed Hinges.
The gates in the image above will open
inwards and fold back 180º.They would
also open outward but would only fold
back 90º.
STEP 4: INSTALLATION
The Ball Bearing Hinge range all come in
two pieces - the pin half and bush half.
