Ecobricks Philippines

Ecobricks Philippines was created to address the plastic pollution and solid
waste management problems in the country, the Philippines being the 3rd ocean
polluter of the world. The purpose is to minimize plastic wastes going to the landfills and
eventually into the oceans.

An ecobrick is a plastic bottle packed to a set density with used, clean and dry
plastic to achieve a building block that can be used over and over again. They are used
to make modular furniture, garden spaces, walls and building structures. It is a low-tech
way that individuals, communities and companies can start immediately towards the
transition from use of too much plastic to zero plastic waste. The ecobricks concept is
based on the technology developed by the Global Ecobricks Alliance (GEA) Movement.
The GEA continuously provide technical support and research and development
through its open source website: www.ecobricks.org.

Ecobricks Philippines has partnered with various sectors all over the country to
replicate proper ecobricks making and implement ecobricks projects. It has directly
empowered and increased ecological awareness of community members through direct
participation in capacity development workshops.
PH’s First Ecobrick Hub
The Philippines is ranked third among the world’s top three plastic polluters of the
ocean. According to a recent study by the Ocean Conservancy and McKinsey Center
for Business and Environment, the country generates 2.7 million metric tons of plastic
garbage each year, 20 percent of which end up in the ocean.

As part of their continuing efforts to protect the environment, Republic Cement

and Green Antz Builders launched recently the first-ever corporate partnership ecobrick
hub in the Philippines for the benefit of Barangay Prinza in Teresa, Rizal.

Green Antz is known for its ecobricks. Made from a mixture of cement and
shredded plastic laminates such as sachets, these ecobricks make use of residual
plastic wastes that have no value and are no longer recyclable.

Eco-friendly builder

GreenAntz Builders is an innovative provider of building and housing solutions

that integrate eco-friendly practices and green technologies in its products and services.
It started as an advocacy in 2012. The focus then was to convert plastic wastes into
construction products. Eventually, it evolved to what it is now — a company which
promotes practices and technologies that will protect the environment.

It views waste as a valuable resource that can be converted to green products, a

belief that is deeply ingrained in its operations. GreenAtz develops innovative products
for the contruction industry through strategic partnership with responsible companies.
