Abstract
Faizah, 2016. The Use of Cooperative Learning Type of STAD to improve students’ achievement in
learning Civic at the IV-A class in SDN 001 Tarakan. Department of Teacher Education of Primary
School, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Borneo University Tarakan. (Advisors by Dr.

The objective of this study is to improve students’ achievement in learning Civic especially for
globalization material by implementing Cooperative Learning Type of STAD at the IV-A class in
SDN 001 Tarakan.
The research design of this study is classroom action research (CAR) that is done in SDN 001
Tarakan at second semester in academic year of 2015/2016. The subjects of this research are
students of IV-A class in SDN 001 Tarakan which consists of 14 male and 16 female students. The
research is conducted in two cycles. Each cycle consists of planning, implementing, observing and
reflecting. The data of this study are gathered by using instrument which are students’ observation
sheet, teachers’ observation sheet, cognitive assessment (test of learning achievement), affective
assessment (curiosity, responsible, coeration) and psychomotor assessment (groups’ presentation).
The result of this research shows that by implementing cooperative learning type of STAD can
improve students’ achievement in learning Civic especially for globalization material at the IV-A
class in SDN 001 Tarakan. It can be seen by the students’ achievement result in each cycle, in cycle
I, the percentage of students’ completeness in cognitive aspect is 80%, and having an improvement
in cycle II, that is 90%. In addition, in cycle I, the percentage of students’ completeness in affective
aspect is 80%, and having an improvement in cycle II, that is 97%. Next, in cycle I, the percentage
of students’ completeness in psychomotor aspect is 80%, and having an improvement in cycle II, that
is 97%. Therefore, it can be concluded that the research is success and achieve the indicator of
success.
