Abstract: This study focuses on lighting up the school at night and to lessen the use of

electrical energy at the same time by creating a Hybrid Street Light. This Street Light is

powered through wind and solar energy. It would be used and placed inside the school

campus where it can harvest enough Solar and Wind Energy to power it’s LED light.

The Product created, claims to be able to lessen school’s electric bill. For the light of the

sun and the breeze cost nothing, but if tapped to meet our energy crisis then can provide

an inexpensive way to producing clean energy. This is also a better alternative in terms

of producing energy for it is renewable and is eco-friendly. The use of this kind of

energy, Solar Energy and Wind Energy, would be backed up by a DC Battery where all

the gathered energy will be place for it’s consumption when the street light is on use.

LED lights would also be used for it is more efficient that the traditional lights and used

less energy. There would also be additional features such as USB ports and Outlets which

can be used for charging devices. With this being said, The Hybrid Street Light will not

only benefit the school at night, by shining a light, but can also benefit students, teachers,

and visitors during day time.

Key Words: Hybrid Street Light; Solar Energy; Wind Energy

INTRODUCTION

Hybrid streetlight is generated by wind and solar energy, it will cost less

since the energy that used is free. Electric power that came from power plant is causing

so much pollution and also very expensive, the researcher wants to lessen the

consumption of electricity that is used in Pasig Catholic College by creating a street light

that can charged energy from wind and sunlight. The surface of the earth receives

120,000 terawatts of solar radiation (sunlight) it is 20,000 times more the power that is

needed to supply the entire world ( Sendy, A. 2019). It is very important for people to use

energy wisely because wasting energy can cause so much trouble in nature considering

the needs of people today is mostly powered by electricity, electricity became a primary

need of people. Hybrid streetlight will get powered by solar panel that can absorb energy

during the day and wind turbine that can absorb energy or charged even in the night or

even if it is raining. According to (Ricci, R.,et.al 2014) Wind and solar energy is free and

clean sources, the most promising alternative of fossil fuels power generation, However,

small wind turbines have to face some problems in related to noise, low and turbulent

winds and visual impact. The turbines can cause noise by the rotor blades and aesthetic

pollution. Although the solar and wind energy has pros it has more cons especially when

it comes to mother nature.

MAIN CLAIMS
Street light consumption has a definite effect in the electric bill of Meralco. The

researchers would like to find an alternative way in producing electricity without the help

of Meralco itself. By the combination of solar and wind, efficiency in delivery continuous

supply of energy can be met. To even consider using renewable energy such as Solar-

Wind Energy with a supporting DC battery to function its components as one to supply a

streetlight hoping for a more lesser costs, easy installation, an eco-friendly to the

environment and more beneficiary to the people.

METHODOLOGY

To gather data and evidences as to why PCC saves energy during the

night, to even lessen its electricity consumption and prevent electric bills from rising is

evident to use In-depth interviews and Focus Group Discussion. In-depth interviews is a

method for a researcher to ask a personnel or staff from PCC to know the reasons as to

why it is observational that the school itself limits the use of electric lights during the

night. There are two ways to interview: Taking Down Notes — listing important points

of an interviewee and Audio/Video Recordings — for a more clear insights in asking

questions and listening to responses. It also capture the facts, to actively listen and note

the most compelling details. Another method is Focus Group Discussion, the researchers

are gathered together based on their similar backgrounds or experiences to discuss a

specific topic of interest.

FINDINGS
The researchers observed the inefficient use of electricity in PCC during

the night because of wasting of electric consumption and the uprise of electric bills. In

avoiding the worst case scenario of a darker environment, wasting of electric

consumption and uprise of electric bills, they will come up with a technology that

requires the use of renewable energy in the environment itself, to supply a backup energy

in case of an inefficient renewable energy and also to add a period of need to the people

in cases of battery drainage in gadgets such as smartphones (Android/iPhone devices) and

laptop. A Hybrid Technology suits this kind of scenario. The researchers may consider

the use of Solar Energy, Wind Energy and a DC battery backup supply and adding-up a

feature of using a charging station. The findings have revealed that the prototype indeed

is feasible, even so is its potential in the market. Not only will it be about the street lights,

but this can be an avenue to a solutions economically problematized by cities in urban

and rural communities. This model can be improved into a more industrialized one, as

much as it can power a street light now can power the whole community in the future.

The installation of one of these is easier than that seen on streets, it does not require

expensive components nor lengthy processes to proceed. In can bring a sustainable,

inexpensive, environment friendly source of energy that is key to the city’s energy

demands.

ANALYSIS

The researchers come up with a technology that can produce electricity

that does not rely on Meralco itself, a renewable energy such as a Hybrid Solar-Wind

Technology with a supporting DC Battery and Inverter Street Lights. The six components

of the technology: Solar — to charge sufficient amount of sunlight during the day. Wind
— to charge sufficient amount of wind in the day, afternoon or night as well as during

rainy seasons which builds up higher rate of stronger winds. DC Battery Supply - to

supply the amount of energy to be used in the street light, also acts as a backup supply in

case Solar or Wind or both of its components are inefficient to be used. Solar charge

controller — without this component, Solar and Wind Energies and DC Battery supply

will not function and produce the Load's light because this serves as the mediator that

controls the use of Solar, Wind, DC Battery and the Load (LED Light) to function as one.

The model also consists of a charging station with a built-in USB port and Outlet that

both uses a USB cable suitable for any Android or iPhone devices and even charge a

Laptop in extreme emergency cases of battery drainage.

CONCLUSION

Renewable Energy is an excellent way to produce electricity from the

mother nature itself. The use of backup supply such as the DC battery is helpful to

transfer and supply the missing energy to the LED lights in case the renewable energy

sources such as Solar and Wind were not able to perform their tasks to gather up energy.

Adding a feature of USB ports and outlet charging stations is a benefit to the PCC

community in case they experience battery drainage, they can use the available charging

station to charge their devices. In a nutshell, the researchers validated the possibility of

lessening the uprise of electric bills, the efficiency of using brighter LED lights during

the evening without relying to Meralco, a renewable energy source which is an eco-

friendly to the environment, and most of all it can benefit the PCC community in this

technology presented.
