Historical Background
After the crossing of Irrawaddy at Nyaungu, the British troops advanced quickly on the road to Meiktila. On the 2nd of February, the
tanks of 5th (Probyns) Horse, 255th Indian Tank Brigade, run into ferocious Japanese resistance at the village of Oyin. Two companies of
the 16th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Division, entrenched in the village using air raid shelters dug by the villagers underneath their houses
as bunkers. A screen of snipers hidden on trees covered the approaches of the village. When the tanks moved into the village, they ran
into Japanese tank-killer teams. Several Japanese soldiers ran out from cover with a picric acid bomb and threw themselves under the
tanks, detonating the bomb to destroy it. The battle lasted all the day and in the evening , the village was clear of any Japanese soldiers,
the advance could continue.
The stage is set, the battle lines are drawn and you are in command. The rest is history.
