Preserving Indonesia Cultural in Globalitazion

I have a cousin, he is 7 years old. After school, he always stayed at home while playing
games in his handphone. He rarely plays outdoors with his friends. Seeing that, I was worried
about his growth. Why many people prefer modern games to traditional games?. Before we
discuss further, let me introduce my self. Good morning everyone, my name is Pebri Anggreni,
from X AP 1.
Ladies and gentlemen,
Indonesia is an archipelago consisting of many island. Because that, Indonesia has many
culture. But, what is meaning of culture?. Culture is the characteristics and knowledge of a
particular group of people, encompassing language, religion, cuisine,sosial, habits, music,art and
traditional games. Technological advances make many people to forget traditional culture. Other
than that, along with the development of the time,the spirit to preserve the traditional culture
among the people is fading fast. The influence of globalization couses the traditional culture to
be lost. Now,many people fond of modern culture they know throught globalization.
Globalization is like a window to the outside world. It looks like the world has merged into one
cultural roof,what we want to see about the outside world, we can be easily to found on
television,mobile phone, and internet. Internet is the most important factor in influencing that
culture. With internet all will know the growing trends,then they follow the trends. Thus the
people began to abandon their traditional culture and the will turn to cultures that the feel
interesting.Like now, the children prefer to eat fast food,western food than Indonesian food. The
children are prefer to learn about modern dance than traditional dance.
Ladies and gentlemen.
One of the effects of globalization is the lost of traditional games that were ones played
by Indonesia children.In this globalization era there are many games that very sophisticated and
supported by high technology.So it’s no wonder,now Indonesia children don’t know about
traditional games. Even though in Indonesia there are various types of traditional games.The
example is enggrang,cranks,marbles,kites,clogs,congklang and many more.Not that we don’t
want to accept technological advences,but we need to realize that technology is not entirely
positive for us, but it also has a negative impact without us knowing it,this is certainly quite
worrying for us. Now,various kind of modern game games have been easily to found both offline
or online.If this continues,it will be dangerous for children development.The example of the
danger are:
1. Children become lazy to learn,because their thoughts are focused on the games.
 2. The children become individualistic,difficult to socialize and children become
passive in real life because the prefer to dwell themselves at home while playing
games rather than playing with their friends.
3. There is a fight between players if the compete and the accumulation of negative
emotions if the lose in the games.
4. Playing games too often and staying at home without doing outdoor activities can
lead obesity or being over weight.
It is estimated that there are more than 1000 traditional games from sabang to Merauke (quoted
from media “the Jakarta port”,but with the large numer of traditional games can be easily to
lost.If we compare, of course traditional games have more benefits than modern games.The
benefits of traditional games are:
1. Train children social interaction, through traditional games children will learn to
interact socially with their friends, this is very good for children development.
2. Train children to be creative, traditional games are games that don’t have rules in
writing and usually the rules of the games will be agreed upon by all members,
so in this case the children needs creativity to make the games interesting.
3. Train children to learn collaboration, through traditional games can also give the
children to learn collaborate with their friends.
4. Practicing children emotions,almost every traditional games is carried out in
group, so that in this cas it can build children emotions arising from tolerance,
empathy for others,sportsmanship and others.
Ladies and gentlemen,
This is not time,that we only closed our eyes, without take care by around us! We can
start by doing a little bit to preserve our culture.For that,let us preserve traditional games from
various types of the region,such as enggrang,cranks,marbles,kites,and many more.Let us begin to
reintroduce the traditional games to the children, so that they are abandoned. Because by
preserving traditional games, it will also an attraction for tourists,especially foreign
tourists.Some ways we can do to preserve traditional games are:
1. Reintroducing traditional games to children, through compettion activities both
in the school environment and the neighborhood.
2. Building a good community in the society, currently there are also some
communities that have done to help preserve traditional games.
3. Hold traditional games workshop.
4. And there are still many more interesting ways that can be done to keep
preserving our traditional games. For example traditional games are used in the
basic education curriculum.
That’s all can I tell you about preserving our traditional games. I hope, preserve our national
culture will be our attention as the new generation and our culture never be lost and be pride as
the generation. Thank you.
