This book is structured with the aim of providing English language teaching
materials for class 4 grade elementary school. This teaching material is designed for
national use and hence teachers throughout Indonesia can use it directly in the
classroom or by doing adaptation as necessary to adjust each Curriculum 2013.

Personal Pronouns
A personal pronouns is used to replace the name of a person or a thing (a noun) in a
sentence. By using a pronoun, we do not have to repeat the name over and over again.

TRANSITIVE AND INTRANSITIVE VERBS

There are two types of verbs. They are transitive and intransitive verbs.

A transitive verb is a verb that requires an object.

Example : My mother drives a car. (A car) is an object.

An intransitive verb is a verb that does not require an object.

Example : He walks.

Some verbs can be both transitive and intransitive.

Example : Sam studies English.

Using ‘Should’ In The Sentence

A. Should
Should is a modal verb.
After Should you use the base form of the infinitive (= verb without To e.g. Go
instead of To Go)

The formula:
Should + Verb + object
Example: You should go now (do not say: You should to go now.)
• Positive Sentence

SUBJECT + SHOULD + VERB-1 + OBJECT


I, You, He, She, We, They should take an aspirin.

• Negative Sentence
SUBJECT + SHOULD + VERB-1 + OBJECT

B. Shouldn't
We use shouldn't to advise not to do something, usually because it is bad or wrong
to do.

• We shouldn't leave without saying goodbye.
• He shouldn't play with those wires if he doesn't know what he is doing.
• Are you tired? You shouldn't work so much.
