Freeman Advocacy Plan 

LM/CE 5010 

Plan Goal Milford Middle School Library’s plan is to draw more students and teachers
into the library to work independently and collaboratively before, during,
and after school.

Attention: Administrators, faculty, students, and community

Message Because the library is underutilized, the fear is the school and community
will stop supporting the library and all it has to offer. Currently, the library
is not open before school. This needs to change. During the school day, the
librarian doesn’t work with students or staff and much too often, the library
aid is pulled to be a sub. After school, the library aid works until 3:00 so that
the library can stay open, which needs to stay the same going forward.

Plan for collecting evidence:​ The library will use google spreadsheet to
track the use and sign out of library space. A more specific purpose will be
documented. A sign in for before and after school use with specific purpose
documented will be created in google forms.

Team
The librarian, technology integrator, and library aid will meet after school
each Monday to discuss and plan strategies to invite and draw students and
teachers into the library to utilize resources. They will evaluate what the
library is being utilized for through the google sign out process and adjust
needs and set goals based on the data.

Timeline Establish a calendar for your plan.

August​: Use in-service planning days at the beginning of the school year to
outline and collaborate on the plan with technology integrator and library
aid. Set up specific format in google calendar and forms and spreadsheet
that will track the use of library.

September​: Invite each team at each grade level into the library for a review
of resources offered and advertise specific times for before and after school
use. Advertise what specific needs can be met before, during, and after
school in the library. Display contact information. Teachers will be very
willing to take them for the preview during “Titan” time at the beginning of
the year when intervention groups are still being decided.

September - December:
★ We will promote the many uses of the library to students, families,
and teachers through the use of a digital flyer in our weekly
newsletter. Also, librarian and/or tech integrator will go to all grade
level meetings to listen and offer support when appropriate.

★ Work with at least one teacher from each team at each grade level on
support for their curriculum.

★ Work with and assist students in their work in the library and make
sure they are utilizing the space to best meet their needs.

January​: Librarian and tech integrator will share out statistics based on
participation with administrators. We will evaluate what is working and
what needs more attention. The plan will be re-evaluated and set into motion
on to what needs more work in the end of the year.

January - May:
★ Continue work on what was re-evaluated and needed from the
beginning of the year.
★ Create an end of year summary of the progress made and goals for
next year. Report out to admin and include in the newsletter.
