THE PROBLEM

Introduction

A dual boot system is a computer system in which two operating systems are

installed on the same hard drive, allowing either operating system to be loaded and given

control. When you turn the computer on, a boot manager program displays a menu,

allowing you to choose the operating system you wish to use. A boot manager works by

replacing the original Master Boot Record (MBR) with its own so that the boot manager

program loads instead of an operating system. In present era of technology advancement,

the usage of desktop computers and other forms of computers such as smart phones

which also called as is increasing day by day throughout the world.

Nowadays computer is very popular in the society. We can do some of our works easily

like making documents. But these days there are several problems that people needs to

fix, there are some viruses spreading the internet and might cause of a failure of your

computer.

To make this problem to be fix some operating system that are open sources and

virus free like Ubuntu. This operating system might not be popular, because many people

are only using Windows operating system. Ubuntu is a computer operating system based

on the Debian Linux distribution as a free and open sources software release, and ease of

installation at the expenses of platform diversity. They named the distribution from the

southern African concept of Ubuntu.

 The researchers can conclude that even though the Ubuntu OS has not been in

existing for long but its growth in the market has been tremendous especially

among computer science and IT students. The simplicity of use coupled with

convenience and customization factor have been the influential features of this

technology.

Even though Linux is a great operating system with widespread hardware and

software support, the reality is that sometimes you have to use Windows, perhaps due to

key apps that won't run under Linux. Thankfully, dual-booting Windows and Linux is

very straightforward—and I'll show you how to set it up, with Windows 10 and Ubuntu

18.04, in this article.

Ubuntu released that give user the option of installing as a free software only. The

update of Ubuntu is every six months that support them for at least eighteen months

secure the daily bugs. There are some people that install Ubuntu like in school, office,

company and etc. because it is very useful and secure from viruses and malwares. In

using these operating system there are reasons why they used Ubuntu not just because of

virus free, it is stable and customizable. Hide from hackers and malicious every time you

open the web. Usually work with application which enable you to do specific task, such

as writing documents.

Dual booting your computer have many advantage, you can separate your files

between two operating systems and to secure the files to be not corrupted. So that we

preferred to others to install and use Dual Booting of their Computer because viruses and

malwares that can harm your personal computer but to know that there are types of

Operating System that is very helpful like Ubuntu.

Statement of the Problem

The main objective of this study is to determine the advantage and dis-advantage of

Dual Boot of Ubuntu and Windows 7.

1. What are the effects on the hardware when restarting the computer frequently?

2. Changing operating system without rebooting using virtual machine.

3. Retrieving files Windows 7 files in Ubuntu Operating System.

4. What is the advantage and disadvantage of dual boot as an Operating System?

Scope and Limitations

This research is only focused in dual Boot Windows 7 and Ubuntu. In this

Research we learned the advantage and disadvantage by using it. Dual operating system

uses only one PC and can change operating system without rebooting by using virtual

machine . The disadvantage of using dual booting is the storagebecause of a dual

operating system.

Significance of the Study

The researchers believed that the results of this study may be of great significance

of the following:

Computer Shop owner. Make a new improvement on their Personal Computers

(PC) or to upgrade to more secure OS.

Future Researcher .To guide the future researcher how to dual boot Ubuntu

Teacher. To teach some new topics and features using Ubuntu

Students. To improve their skills and to learn new topics.

Definition of terms

For better understanding, the following terms used in the study are conceptually

and operationally defined.

Virus- a type pf program that are hidden in a computer and that copies a file itself and

insert them into another program.

Network Servers. Computers that provides share the source to your work station.

Operating system- the main program of computer that controls how the computer works

to the other program.

Linux-a type of operating system that are free from viruses, malwares and hackers.

Dual boot- to make a two operating system in one computer.

Review of Related Literature and Studies

This chapter presents the roster of information relevant to the study taken from

different sources of published and unpublished books, magazines, bulletins, journals,

encyclopaedias, abstracts, theses and any other reading materials.

Related Literature

The following are the related literature that support the studies based on our

source of researching on internet and books that we have gathered.

According to Andy Ho(2010) the present inventions relates to a parallel

processing method for a dual operating system comprising building a main operating

system and a sub operating on an operating system kernel: executing a first application

program in the instruction or command received from a piece of hardware to the first

application program.

Wiley (2018) The tenth edition of operating system concept has been revised to

keep it fresh and up-to-date with contemporary examples of how operating system

function as well as enhanced interactive elements to improve learning and the students

experience with the material. It combines instruction on concepts with real world

applications so that students can understand the practical usage of the content. A Linux

virtual machine (including C and Java Source code and development tools) allows

student to complete them engage further with the material.

 Walker (2010) A computing device is booted in a manner that enables a software

application to begin execution with minimal delay. When device is powered up, a first

processor system, and a second processor system begins booting under control of a

second operating system.

This part relates the researcher collected similar studies, for if contribute by the

conveyance of the recent research study.

Installing Linux Ubuntu Version-Velasco Et Al(march 2017) The study’s findings

that Ubuntu is one of the most secured operating system and define the highest level

security advantage and benefit of the installation of Linux using Ubuntu version is not for

students but also to all people.

Nichols (2014) The communications – electronics security group (CES G) the

group within the UK Government Communication Headquarters (GCHQ) that a session

operating system and software for security issues has found that while no end-user

operating system is as secure as they’d like it to be, Ubuntu 12.04 is the best of the lot in

late 2013, the CESG looked at the security of the most popular end user operating system

for desktops, smartphones and tablets.

According to Fozzi (2016) the five essential Ubuntu as features are as follows:

*Hardware auto configuration- Ubuntu comes with the drivers for most hardware built in.

Any user who has an experience on the installation and usage of a generic windows

appreciate the importance or not spending time chasing around for drivers after installing

the operating system.

*Multiple Desktops-virtual desktop are like tabbed web browsing.

*Software Repositories-Being able to install thousands of application from Ubuntu

repositories in a few mouse clicks is a giant improvement.

*Ssh Client- This probably only matters to geeks, but having an Ssh client into the

operating system is a major plus for Ubuntu

*No Antivirus-Security practices In the windows world are intensely inconsistent.

Synthesis of the State of the Art

In this study the proponent assess the similarities of research study that conducted

and also to the present studies.

The research of Velasco Et al. says that the Ubuntu is a highly secured operating

system that, have been proven by many persons and also us. In this study the Ubuntu OS

in present the company added some features that can help people in many ways of using

Ubuntu. This research is also similar to Nichols research and Ubuntu's security level can

be also do in different gadgets not just desktops.

The study of Fozzi is relevant in present because they focused in updating the

Ubuntu by making some features that can help people in multitasking their work. This

update has been improved a lot.

 It show importance and the relatedness of those related study in our research the

present study had showed the same study made by Andy Ho and the study conducted by

Walker. Both of these studies present the importance of Ubuntu in the computer.

Installing Linux Using Ubuntu version – Rommel Velasco Et.al (March2017).

The study find out that Ubuntu is one of the most secured operating system and define the

highest level security. Advantage and benefit of the installation of Linux using Ubuntu

version is not for student but also to all people,

Conceptual Framework

The framework of this study was anchored on the systems concept. A system

comprised of these elements: the input, the process and the output.

The input consisted of the load of the system. In this research, it talks about the

respondents of the people who have been ask some questions regarding in this topic and

how will they give feedback to our research.

The process is the action of doing the main topic including the data gathering. It

includes the test and findings by showing the results of the performance in installing

Ubuntu on Windows7.

The output is the place which of the results of the system. In this study, the

output shows the advantage and Dis-advantage of Dual Boot Windows 7 and Ubuntu.

Research Design

In this research, we use exploratory research to investigate the problem, which is

not clearly define. It is conducted to have a better understanding of the existing problem,

but will not provide conclusive results. The researchers starts with a general idea and uses

this research as a medium to identify issues that can be the focus for future research

Data Gathering Tools and Procedures

The study in this research used the applied research. The researchers collect

information by Dual Booting Ubuntu and Windows 7. We have known the Advantage

and Dis- Advantage of how dual boot can take some benefits to the users. By testing

these two (2) operating systems, we get some sample information that can be help the

readers to guide them. In this research we find a person to try and use a dual boot

computer. After that we get his/her feedback about using two different types of operating

systems in one computer.

Probability of Retrieving Work Files from Windows 7 to Linux OS

This chapter deals with the presentation, analysis, interpretation and discussion of

data gathered on the effects of Geometrical Puzzles to the performance of third year

students of Moreno Integrated School.

Data is presented in tabular and textual forms in order to provide a clear interpretation of

the data.

1. What are the effects on the hardware when restarting the computer frequently?

Dual Boot Windows 7 and Ubuntu requires rebooting the PC to change Operating

system from Windows 7 to Ubuntu or Ubuntu to Windows, but changing operating

system can cause the hardware to be failed because the hard disk are also affected when

rebooting the PC frequently.

2. Changing operating system without rebooting

To make this problem solve researcher used an application called virtual machine

or virtual box. It the help of this application you don’t need to restart your PC that may

affect the hardware. You can also multitask and switch operating system in the same

time.

3. Opening Windows 7 files in Ubuntu Operating System

The researcher have proven that Windows 7 files can access on Linux Operating System

like pictures, document, musics, videos and etc.

4.What is the advantage and disadvantage of dual boot as an Operating System?

Advantages

 You have a 2 different operating system in one PC

 Ubuntu is a free and open source operating system.

 You can multitask using a two operating system.

Dis-advantages

 Memory storage can be parted in to two.

 System can be damaged if the computer rebooting frequently.

 It takes time to change operating system if you don’t have a virtual machine.

SUMMARY, CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS

This chapter presents the summary, conclusions and recommendations of the

study which were drawn from the data gathered.

Summary

This study is propose to help the individual by providing two operating system in

helping them to choose operating system that are suitable to its need. Ubuntu operating

system will sure the files in your personal computer (PC) while window 7 is more

popular OS in the word this OS is provide to all the user did not popular to use a the

operating system Ubuntu.

Therefore the research achieved their objectives which follow: and

1. What are the effects on the hardware when restarting the computer frequently?

2. Changing operating system without rebooting.

3. Opening Windows 7 files in Ubuntu Operating System.

4. What is the advantage and disadvantage of dual boot as an Operating System?

Findings

The list below is the significant finding/result encounter by the researcher:

1. Two Operating System is possible in one Computer.

2. Ubuntu is customizable, open source and free from viruses.

3. Ubuntu has already installed application like Microsoft word compared to Windows.

4. Ubuntu can access other Windows 7 files like picture, document and musics etc.

5. The probability of retrieving work files from Windows 7 to Ubuntu is 99%.

Conclusions

Based on the findings that were presented, the following are the conclusions that

were conceived by the researchers.

1. Linux Operating System is different to the Operating system used now a day.

2. The researchers take some attentions in this study that they must learn a lot about the

information and use of Ubuntu.

3. In dual Boot Windows 7 and Ubuntu can be used in one computer.

4.The researchers conclude that software applications from Windows 7 are not suitable in

Linux OS.

Recommendations

The researcher had ended with the following recommendation were expected to

be beneficial to different groups and individuals

1. The researcher must know how to explore different settings.

2. The overall cost of building and maintaining this type of network is comparatively

very less.
