and with modern company management and marketing.

Wato Joint Venture

The Know How

The designing and development of Wato valves have been entirely performed by Atos
on the basis of its technological experience, using the same engineering criteria
adopted for Atos components. Wato valves are manufactured in the new Haimen plant
under licence and supervising of Atos.

Some of the Wato valve’s components are directly supplied by Atos Italy: springs, seals,
critical spools, poppet cartridges of piloted pressure relief valves. In fact the local
production could not ensure the required quality standard.

New Wato Haimen plant

The Wato quality inspection and machining procedures are strictly in compliance with
the Atos standards.
New modern European machine tools and transfers as well as advanced quality
inspection instruments, ensure high accuracy for mechanical tolerances and surface
finishing.
The continuous research of technological improvements concerning materials,
machining, heat treatments, surface protection, is constantly carried out in close
cooperation between Wato technical staff and Atos R&D department.

Accurate honing processing

Quality first!
The achievement of high quality standards is the first target for Wato and great
energies and resources have been invested.
To certify the Wato quality level, specific tests are periodically carried out by Atos R&D
department on the Wato current production, through severe inspections of the electric
mechanical parts and with the verification of the valves performances.
The main target for Wato is to manufacture hydraulic components capable to comply
quality standards required by the most advanced industrial OEMs in China and in the
world and thus to be able to challenge with overseas competitors in local and foreign
markets.

Wato – a reliable company
The valves reliability is verified by means of endurance tests performed both in Wato and Atos on current production. The
valves samples are normally submitted to more than 10 Millions cycles at the max working pressure and flow limits and their
performances (in particular the internal leakages) are periodically tested to check the wearing degree and the consequent
valve capability to keep unchanged their initial performances along the time.
At this subject here below are reported the performance results measured on WDHE before and after 12.000.000 cycles:

Performance comparison
The test report in the following pages refers to a performance analysis of Wato standard solenoid directional valves WDHE,
and WDKE, compared with the correspondent Atos and Rexroth ones and it fully evidences the good quality of standard Wato
valves.
The performance data have been organized in diagrams where the test results can be easily compared.
For the test have been selected the most common valve configurations and spools types normally supplied to the market. All
the valves have been submitted to the following standard performance tests:

- functional P/Q limits

- pressure drops
- internal leakages

In the diagrams it can be observed that the performances of Wato in terms of P/Q limits, pressure drops and internal leakages
are comparable with Atos and BRR ones, without significative differences or penalizations.
Note: the performances shown for the Wato and Atos valves correspond to the average values measured on current
production, while for BRR the test are referred to one sample for each configuration and spool type.
This have little influence about the comparison of the P/Q limits and of the pressure drops. The internal leakages are instead
deeply depending to the mechanical tolerances, thus the results of BRR are just indicative and not directly comparable with
the ones of Wato and Atos.
It is to be said that the mechanical coupling between body and spool (spool overlap and spool/ body coupling tolerances), is
very similar among Wato, Atos and BRR and thus also the expected leakage results of series production should be very
similar.

1.1) P/Q limits (performed with ISO DIN 51124 hydraulic oil type AGIP OSO 46)
The following two diagrams compare the flow limits obtained for the different valve configurations and spools types:
- on the X axis are reported the valves configurations referred to Wato codes (see Wato catalogue, table WE010)
- on the Y axis are reported the flow limits at the max pressure of 350 bar.

Results
The P/Q limits of Wato, Atos and BRR are very similar with following notes:

DC valves – see diagram 1

• For spool type 0, the Wato and the Atos P/Q limits are higher than BRR
• For spool type 4 the Wato P/Q limits are little penalized due to the larger passages P-T in rest position, but with
advantage in terms of low pressure drops (see diagram 3).

AC valves – see diagram 2

The P/Q limits of all AC valves are lower than DC ones, as evidenced in the diagram 2, because the reduced force
characteristics of AC solenoids in comparison with DC.
• For spools type 0 and 4 the Wato P/Q limits are lightly higher than Atos in consequence of the stronger force
characteristics.
• The P/Q performances measured for BRR spool type 4 are very low and much lower than the relevant catalogue
data .

1.2) Pressure Drops (based on ISO DIN 51124 hydraulic oil type AGIP OSO 46)
- on the X axis are reported the valves configurations referred to Wato codes (see Wato catalogue, table WE010)
- on the Y axis are reported the pressure drops values measured at 60 l/min in double passage (PA+BT) or P-T for spool
type 4

Results
The pressure drops of Wato valves are lower than Atos and aligned with BRR. This is due to the longer spool
stroke of Wato valves in comparison with Atos.

The P-T pressure drops of BRR spool type 4 are higher than Atos and Wato because they have smaller P-T
passages in de-energized position.

1.3) Internal leakages (based on ISO DIN 51124 hydraulic oil type AGIP OSO 46)
- on the X axis are reported the valves configurations referred to Wato codes (see Wato catalogue, table WE010)
- on the Y axis are reported the internal leakages measured at max pressure of 350 bar

Results
The internal leakages are deeply influenced by the machinings quality and in particular by the body/spool
coupling tolerances.
In the following diagram it can be noted that the internal leakages among Wato, Atos ad BRR are very similar
and minimal differences are due to the machining tolerances of the series production.

2) WDKE – size 10

2.1) P/Q limits (performed with ISO DIN 51124 hydraulic oil type AGIP OSO 46)
The following two diagrams compare the flow limits obtained for the different valve configurations and spools types:
- on the X axis are reported the valves configurations referred to Wato codes (see Wato catalogue, table WE010)
- on the Y axis are reported the max flow limits at the max pressure of 315 bar.

Results
DC valves – see diagram 5
The P/Q limits of Wato, Atos and BRR are very similar and no particular notes have to be pointed out.
All the valves provide P/Q limits at the top of the performances of the best size 10 directional solenoid valves available on the
market.

AC valves – see diagram 6

Also for AC versions there are no significative differences in the P/Q performances.
Can be noted that the performances of Wato and BRR are lightly better than Atos. The reason is because the AC version of
Wato and BRR valves are provided of 3 chamber body and this execution permits higher P/Q performances.
Atos is instead provided of 5 chamber body both for DC and AC versions.

2.2) Pressure Drops (based on ISO DIN 51124 hydraulic oil type AGIP OSO 46)
Pressure drops values measured at 120 l/min in double passages (P-A+B-T) or P-T for spool type 4
- on the X axis are reported the valves configurations referred to Wato codes (see Wato catalogue, table WE025)
- on the Y axis are reported the pressure drop values measured at 120 l/min.

Results
The pressure drops values are very similar and minimal differences are due to the mechanical tolerances of the valve’s
components of series production.

2.3) Internal leakages (based on ISO DIN 51124 hydraulic oil type AGIP OSO 46)
In the following two diagrams are shown the valves internal leakages respectively measured at 315 bar.
The references on the X axis are referred to the configurations of Wato valves (see Wato catalogue, table WE025)

Results
The internal leakages of Wato and Atos valves are very similar and minimal differences are only due to the mechanical
tolerances of series production.
It is instead evident the higher internal leakage level of BRR spools. As reported in the note relevant to the section
“Performance comparison”, the BRR leakage test has been performed on one sample only and the measured higher leakage
can be due to the chance to have tested 2 valves with max coupling tolerance between body and spool.
