MECHANICS/GUIDELINES:
1. SPOKEN POETRY is a performance art that is word based. It is a writing that is meant to be spoken or
delivered with emotions to an audience. It is an oral art that focuses on the aesthetics of word play,
rhythm, improvisation, rhymes, intonation and voice inflection.
2. The contest is open to all Education students of the participating schools except DLSU-D.
3. Each participating school shall register only one contestant.
4. The spoken poetry must be an original composition. It could be written in English or Filipino. (The use
of Taglish is not allowed).
5. Three (3) printed copies of the spoken poetry must be submitted to the organizers one hour before
the contest proper.
6. The piece must be related to education such as, but not limited to the following: (Teaching profession,
A teacher’s life, The joy and sacrifices of teaching, Issues in education, Role of education, The rewards of
teaching, Inspiring the learners, Making a difference, Model teachers, Classroom stories, Education: The
road to success, Why be a teacher? Teachers-The unsung heroes, etc./ Mag-EDUC ka na lang, Guro ako,
Titser ka- Bakit?, Ang buhay ng isang guro, Minsan may isang guro, Edukasyon-pinakamarangal na
propesyon, Guro: makabagong bayani, Guro: pag-asa ng bansa, Edukasyon para sa pagsulong, etc. )
7. Each contestant is given a maximum of 3 to 5 minutes to recite or deliver his/her piece. No deduction
shall be made if the contestant finishes the delivery in less than the maximum time-frame.
8. The spoken poetry must delivered from memory and any movement is confined onstage.
9. Attire appropriate for the spoken piece should be worn during the contest.
10. Sounds, instrumental or musical background are allowed to complement the delivery. No deduction
shall be made if the contestant opts not to have a musical background.
11. Prizes at stake. The first, second, and third placers shall receive a certificate of recognition, medal
and a cash prize. Certificates of participation shall be given to all contestants and their coaches.
12. An entry form shall be required for submission with 2x2 picture together with a certification of
enrollment signed by the Dean or the Registrar. Entry forms shall be submitted on or before Monday
December 18, 2017 and shall be sent through LBC, express mail, etc. or personal delivery to:

13. The contestants will be judged using the following criteria:

Attire complements the contestant’s spoken piece.
Total: 100%
9. Registration fee for each participating school is Php 1,400. This shall be paid during the registration
on Thursday, February 1, 2018. A receipt will be issued.
NOTE: DUE TO LIMITED TIME FOR SPOKEN POETRY CONTEST, ACCEPTANCE OF CONTESTANTS WILL BE
ON A FIRST-COME-FIRST-SERVED BASIS. THE NUMBER OF CONTESTANTS SHALL BE LIMITED TO
TEN (10).
