OTHER IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Mr. Taylor
th
4 grade, Walter Woodward School
•Parent Portal: Besides the HW calendar, the parent portal is another excellent tool for a parent to use
to check up on their child’s progress. Using the portal, parents can check on their child’s grades which
includes test scores, worksheets, homework, projects and other graded assignments. Parents should
pay particular attention to any scores that are marked absent. These scores have a timeline in which
they must be completed. Missing assignments are sure to have an adverse effect on student’s grades.

•Progress Reports: Progress Reports are sent out at the mid-point of each trimester. Parents should
avail themselves of this tool to check up on their child’s progress. There is a typical learning curve that
students transitioning from the primary grades (3rd) to the intermediate grades (4th) experience. Low
scores for the first trimester progress reports are usually due to students either not completing or not
turning in assignments.

•Parent Volunteers: Starting this year Woodward is a closed campus. The office will be sending home a
notice that will spell out the guidelines that parents must follow in order to be on campus and/or
volunteer in a classroom. Please review these procedures as I will be following them. Please give me a
call if you want to volunteer in some capacity and I will be happy to walk you through steps.

•Class Parties: Due to District Nutrition Guidelines and health restrictions, food items are not allowed to
be brought into the classroom. Parents who want to celebrate their child’s birthday may bring in items
such pencils, note cards, books, stickers etc. with prior approval from Mr. Taylor.

•Spell-a-thon: Our spell-a-thon is held once a year and is the ONLY major source of money from my
class. The money raised by this class stays with this class and can only be used by this class. The money
is used for our field trips and other class supplies. So, when your child comes and asks for a donation for
this year’s spell-a-thon, please give generously.

•Multiplication: A successful year in 4th grade mathematics is based on a solid foundation of

multiplication. Students who are weak in their knowledge of basic multiplication facts will face an uphill
battle with learning this year’s concepts. If your child does not have these facts down pat, please set
aside some time each evening to review their times tables.

•Contact: The best way to get in contact with me is to call the school phone and leave a message.
