DETAILED LESSON PLAN in EARTH AND LIFE SCIENCE
Year Level- Grade 11/12

I.Objectives: At the end of the lesson, the learners are expected to:

 describe a DNA molecule.

 explain how DNA makes RNA.
 explain how DNA transfers genetic information to synthesize proteins.
 construct a model of DNA and proteins that will represent the transfer
of genetic information.
 appreciate the importance of synthesis of proteins.

a. Content Standard: The learners demonstrate an understanding how genes

work.
b. Performance Standard: Construct a model of DNA and proteins that will
represent the transfer of genetic information.
c. Learning Competency: Explain how the information in the DNA allows
the transfer of genetic information and synthesis of proteins

II. Content:

 Topic: Perpetuation of Life

 Subtopic: transcription and translation
 Skills: identifying,describing, explaining
 Values: initiative, cooperation, creativity

III. Learning Resources:

A.References: Earth and Life Science by Lilia Vengco

B.Materials: laptop, projector (for Powerpoint Presentation), visual aids

( pictures/ illustrations for 4pics—one word)

III.Procedures:

A. Routinary Acivities:
 Prayer
 Greetings
 Checking of Attendance

B. Reviewing previous lesson or presenting the new lesson

C. Establishing a purpose for the new lesson:
4 PICS 1 WORD

The teacher will divide the class into four groups. Each group will
choose a representative. The teacher will instruct the students to
identify what word is shown based on the pictures presented on the
board.
D. Presenting examples/instances of the new lesson:

1. Present a video clip on how DNA information allows transfer of

genetic information and synthesis of protein.
2. Present the lesson through Powerpoint using the laptop and LCD
projector.
E. Discussing a new concept and practicing new skills #1:
3. Activity:
3.1 Pre-Activity:
 Checking of materials
 Discussion of the procedures
3.2 Activity Proper: Students will be given 10 minutes to construct
the model of the layers of the Earth using recyclable and other
materials.
3.3 Post-Activity: Presentation of the Outputs/ constructed model
Evaluation of the performance through a rubrics.
F. F. Discussing a new concept and practicing new skills #1:

G.Developing Mastery:

The teacher will ask the following questions:

1. Enumerate the parts of DNA molecule.

2. Differentiate DNA from RNA.
3. Explain how DNA transfers genetic information to synthesize proteins.
4. Differentiate codon from anticodon.
5. How many proteins are found in the genetic chart?

H. Finding practical application of concepts and skills in daily living:

 How important are DNA replication, transcription and

translation?

I. Making generalizations and abstraction of the lesson:

 GAME ( FACT or BLUFF)

 Direction: Class will be divided into 5 groups.Allow them to
choose their leader. The teacher will mention the
statement. The leader will raise his placard with either FACT or
BLUFF.

J.Evaluate Learning: Write a concept map on how DNA molecule transfer

information to synthesize proteins by filling up the meta cards

below:

J. Additional activities / remediation:

Answer this question in your lecture notebook:

How do genetic information produce proteins?
