Team Leadership Development Plan Part B: Post-Course Assessment

1. Was your team a high performance team? Why or why not? If not, what would have made
your team a high performance team?

Yes, my team was a high performance team. This is because we were able to understand each
other’s strengths and weaknesses quickly. The work was then allocated accordingly to the team
members. The co-ordination among the team members was good and whenever there was a
situation that any of the team members felt any difficulty, the other team members would provide
support and help in achieving the goal of the team.

2. What did you learn in your reading, activities and discussions, and experiences with your
team in this course that enhanced your own capability to work with teams?

The reading, activities and discussions with the team members helped in developing good
understanding among the team members. They acted as the ice-breaker among the members of the
team who were otherwise not known to each other. The activities led to more conversations and
the activities gave the team spirit. Though the team members had different backgrounds, they
began to work together has they wanted to win against the other teams. It helped me to interact
and work with a team and also lead them to achieve a common goal in the best possible manner.

3. How could your personal performance have assisted your team to be a higher performing
team?

Team is made up of many individuals. It is essential that each team member understands that the
welfare of the team should be everyone’s top priority. Each team member has a certain role to play
in the success of the team. My personal performance as the team leader helped the team to be
successful. For example: in some of the activities there were some conflict of opinion that would
arise in the team, I was able to control the team members and not let the situation go out of control.
There were also some situations where the discussion of the team would deviate from the actual
topic, I was then able to bring the team members back on track.

4. Articulate 3 development goals and propose a plan for meeting those goals in the future

For the team the 3 development goals are:

 To reduce the conflicts and deviations in the team

 To follow directions
 To be able to handle the pressure of time.

The plan to meet these goals are:

 To reduce the conflicts and deviations in the team: The team members have to be explained
that the efficiency of the team gets reduced due to conflicts and deviations. They will have
to be more accommodative and listen to others opinions impartially.
 To follow directions: The team members will have to understand that they are expected to
follow some directions as specified. The team members will have to accept and abide by
the instructions of the team leader.
 To be able to handle the pressure of time: The team members had a tendency to get worried
when they had to work under pressure. The skill to be calm under pressure has to be learnt.
This is possible by having faith among the team members that together they can achieve
the goal.
