Introduction

1.1 Background of the Study

Using gadgets are very useful , it help us to connect each other , it makes us learn new
things and discover new things . Gadgets are invented to help us to improve are way of life .
Gadgets make our life better in many ways , especially to the students and some companies .
Modern gadgets makes our way of studying easier and provide fun to the students interms of games
without considering that they could have a bad influence and bad effect . Gadgets of today have a
lots of features that is beyond communicating to others .

1.2 Statement of the Problem

This study aims to determine the effect of excessive use of gadgets of senior high school
students academic performance in Eduardo Gorre Memorial Integrated School for the school year
2019-2020 . The findings of the study will be basis of the propose intervention program .

Specifically the study will answer the following questions:

1.What is the profile of senior high school students based on the following:
1.1 age
1.2 year level and strand
1.3 number of gadgets in hand
2.What is the level of using gadgets in tems of:
2.1 school work
2.2 games and leisure
2.3 family connections
3.What is the academic performance of senior high school students based on the following:
3.1 school projects / assignments
3.2 technology application
3.3 school examination
4.Is there a significant relationship between:
 4.1 Excessive use of gadgets and profile of the senior high school students
4.2 Excessive use of gadgets and academic performance of the senior high school
students
4.3 Academic performance and profile of the senior high school students
5.What intervention program can be proposed based on the findings of the study
HO:There is no significant relationship between:
1.Excessive use of gadgets and profile of the senior high school students
2.Excessive use of gadgets and academic performance of the senior high school

1.3 Scope and Delimitation of the Study

The researchers will emphasize the effect of gadgets in the academic performance of the
senior high school students in Eduardo Gorre Memorial Integrated School based on the perceptions
and manner of the students in using gadget as a tool that they can use in their education . The
respondents of this study are the Grade 11 ICT , Grade 11 GAS , Grade 12 ICT and Grade 12 GAS
of EGMIS , Ibo Danao City . The researcher are expected to conduct their study from the month
of August 2019 to March 2020 . Each of them will answer the guide question that will be given by
the researcher.

Significance of the Study

The result of this study is significant to school , parents , teacher , students / pupils ,
government , users , community , future researcher and the other researcher .

Students : This will help them realize that they shall uphold a good time management interms of
their education and be responsible in using the gadgets.
Teachers : This study will facilitate the educations in executing and giving advice to the students
on the appropriate utilization of gadgets in seeking the knowledge that they need.
Parent : This will serve as their reminder that they are primarily responsible in providing
limitation in their child especially in the education and proper use of gadgets.
School : This is beneficial for them to impose disciplinary action for students who were addicted
to electronic gadgets whose grades and school attendance are greatly affected either positively or
negatively.
Community : This will help the community to be aware of the possible effects that may acquired
in overusing gadgets.
Government : This will help the government to impose law in order to eliminate the negative
impacts of gadgets among students through formulating different programs that advocates to
engage the students in the proper use of gadget and learning at the same time.
Users : This study would help the student who are using devices to limit their time to the different
entertainment section that will be acquired on gadgets.
Researcher of the Study : This study will signify as their fulfillment to provide and contribute
information to the whole community and to their fellow students.
Future Researcher : This will encourage future researchers to conduct studies about the
technology advancement especially the device that hinder the academic performance of the
students.
