1 Basic Operations
The measurement functions of this instrument comprise both basic and application measurements.
– Measurements tailored to the (clinical area) needs of all applications.( Refer to the table below).
– The instrument records and manages measurement values for each patient in the form of reports to
enable follow-up observations and other evaluations.
The applied measurements above use measurement conditions and formulas based on references,
which presents their clinical validity. The references are stated at the end of each chapter.
The workflow for making measurements is as described below, regardless of the type of application or
study.
(1) Entry of patient data Once patient data has been entered, measurement values and calculated
index values can be recorded and managed for each patient. Reports and
graphs can be displayed for follow-up analysis (development assessment,
treatment evaluation, etc.).
Refer to the separate “Basic Operations” volume for details on patient data.
(2) Application and Select from the ID screen or by using the touch panel during an examination.

Spheroidal
Three diameters (long axis, short axis and the maximum cross-sectional diameter in the direction
perpendicular to the long axis (= intermediate axis diameter)) are measured from the image of two
orthogonally intersecting cross-sectional planes, and the volume of the rotating spheroid is
calculated.
Prolate
Like measuring the area of an ellipse, calculate the volume using the long and short axes of the
ellipse and measure the hypothetical circle on the orthogonal cross-sectional plane intersecting the
short axis.
Method of calculating volume from the traced area and long axis:
– Area-Length
Trace the long axis cross-section and calculate volume from this area and the long diameter.
– BP Simpson
The volume is computed using the basic principles of the Disk method (measurement with two cross
sections).
– SP Simpson
The volume is computed using the basic principles of the Disk method (measurement with one cross
section).
There are four types of measurement method. The following are the combinations of calculation
methods.
The volume measurements on the Measurement menu are [Volume1] and [Volume2]. Use the [Basic
Measurement > Measured Method & Display Items > B.Mode] presets to select a measurement method
and calculation method.

This function automatically traces the Doppler waveform in real-time and displays the Doppler
information for the most recent single heartbeat. You can also perform tracing immediately after the
image is frozen without tracing in real time. The calculated Doppler information can be transferred to
an application measurement.
This is suitable for use with the pulsatile waveform of peripheral arteries, such as the carotid artery.
4)
When PI and RI are calculated using Real Time Doppler Auto Trace measurement, the minimum blood
flow velocity point during a single heartbeat is the EDV. In waveforms whose blood flow polarity
changes during the interval between the systole and the diastole, like the arteries in the lower
extremities, the peak of the waveform that has undergone a polarity change is detected as EDV.
NOTE: For details on menu presets, refer to the separate “Basic Operations” volume.
The following presets must be set before starting Real Time Doppler Auto Trace measurements. Assign
Doppler Auto Trace to the touch panel.
Prior confirmation Adjust the Doppler waveform using flow velocity and Wall Filter (D).
Angle correction: Match the angle mark to the direction of the flow of blood.
The measurement results for the most recent heartbeat are displayed. The result is displayed as “***”
if a Doppler waveform required for the measurement cannot be captured.
[Auto]: The baseline located from the center to the bottom of the image is the upward baseline. The
baseline is downward is located from the center to the top of the image.
NOTE: When the image conditions change as a result of the search function or a change in the sweep
velocity, the trace line and the measurement results are updated accordingly. If there is no valid heart-
beat on the screen, no measurement values are displayed.

The one-dimensional flow rate profile detected by the Color Doppler method is expanded to a
two-dimensional profile. The individual flow values from the two-dimensional profile are multiplied by
the areas of the respective micro-area elements to obtain the individual flow volumes, which are totaled
in order to quantify the instantaneous blood flow. The blood flow volume which flows for any given time
in an region of interest can be calculated with the integration processes of instantaneous blood flow in
a longitudinal direction.
