Chapter 1 – Introduction

1.1 Statement of the Problem

Directly or indirectly, water affects all facets of life. Without it, there would be

no vegetation on land, no oxygen for animals and humans to breathe and the planet

would look entirely different than it does today. Water is necessary keep people's

bodies and the environment healthy and should be valued and protected as the

precious resource it is. Despite the good things that it provides, people do not

preserve it that’s why water pollution in the world is rapidly increasing.

Philippines is an archipelago, it is consisting of islands surrounded by

bodies of water namely ocean, seas, lakes, rivers, etc. and most of these are

polluted. Local Government Unit has workers assigned to clean the waste dragged

to the shore by the waves, they also clean the rivers, lakes and sewers, but those

activities are not enough to preserve bodies of water since their schedule of

cleaning is not every day. Hundreds of trashes are being deposit to bodies of water

every day, since the cleaning of it is very often, water tends to be polluted.

The main source of water supply in home is coming from dams, and dams

are connected to rivers, while rivers are connected to seas. If seas and rivers here

in the Philippines is already polluted, then the water coming from every home is also

polluted. Some of the Filipinos directly drink from the faucet, imagine this scenario,
they are drinking a polluted water. The Water Waste Collecting Robot will help to

lessen the water pollution in the Philippines by regularly collecting the water waste.

1.2 Current State of Technology

As of now, there are no existing device that can collect trash in the water. This will

be the very first device in the Philippines that can help collect trash that can clog water

flow and execute it without any disrupting the surroundings.

1.3 Objectives

1.3.1 General Objectives

 To lessen trash in rivers, dams and other body of water.

 To decrease manual cleaning.

 To prevent trash that can clog rivers.

1.3.2 Specific Objectives

 To create a device that will help to lessen the water pollution in the Philippines.

 To lessen water pollution using a device that will not cause any damage.

1.3.3 Scopes and Limitations

Scopes

1. It is only for water uses.

2. It can be only used during daylight.

Limitations

1. There is a specific size of trash can accumulate.

2. There is a specific amount of trash can be stored.

3. Limited power source because the solar energy is not always present

1.4 Significance of the Study

The findings of this study will rebound to the benefit of society considering that

pollution in the water is a huge problem and by this study it will help solve this problem.

For the researchers, this will help them uncover areas that can aid them on improving

the status of the environment.
