that you will follow all these standards that you
said.
We will, teacher.

B. Lesson Proper
1. Preparation
For you to know our lesson for today, let us play
a game entitled "Four Pics, One Word". In this
game, you are going to puzzle a word through
the four pictures. I have prepared three words. I
will divide the class into three groups. Each
group is given a word to work on. For group 1,
the word you’re going to arrange is a seven-
letter word. For group 2, the word you are going
to arrange is a four-letter word. For group 3, the
word you are going to arrange is a nine-letter
word. I will only give you 2 minutes to work on
this and after you're done working, present your
work in front of the class.
Okay, teacher.
May we have the groups to present their work
already and let us start with group one. What is
you the word you formed?
The word we formed is subject, teacher.
That's right! But how did you come up with the
word?
The four pictures show different subject areas
like Reading, Mathematics, Science and Social
Studies, teacher.
Very good, how about group 2, what is the word
that you formed?
The word we formed is verb, teacher.
That's right! But how did you come up with the
word?
The four pictures show different actions,
teacher.
Very good, how about group 3, what is the word
that you formed?
The word we formed is agreement, teacher.
That's right! But how did you come up with the
word?
The four pictures show persons who agree,
teacher.
Very good, given the three words you formed,
what do you think is our lesson for today?
Our lesson for today is subject-verb agreement,
teacher.

2. Presentation
Yes! Our lesson for today is subject-verb
agreement. But before we start with our proper
lesson on subject-verb agreement, let us first
remember what do these words mean. What is
a subject?
Subject is the person, animal, place or object
being discussed or talked to, teacher.
Very good! How about, a verb?
Verbs are words that express an action, teacher.
Very good! How about, what is agreement?
Agreement is the act of agreeing, teacher.
Very good! Based on how you described the
following words, I think you are now ready with
our lesson.
Yes, teacher.
3. Discussion
I have here two sets of sentences. For set A, the
sentence is, “The dog barks.” For set B, the
sentence is “The dogs bark.” To know if the verb
agrees with the subject in these sentences, let us
examine each sentence by knowing the subject
and the verb in each sentence. In set A, what is
the subject in the sentence?
The subject in the sentence is dog, teacher.
Very good! How about in set B, what is the
subject in the sentence?
The subject in the sentence are dogs, teacher.
Very good! In set A, what is the verb in the
sentence?
The verb in the sentence is barks, teacher.
Very good! How about in set B, what is the verb
in the sentence?
The verb in the sentence is barks, teacher.
Very good! Going back to the subject of each
sentences, what is the number the subject dog?
Singular or plural?
Singular, teacher.
How do you know that the subject dog is
singular?
The word is without -s, teacher.
Very good! In terms of number, are the subject
dogs singular or plural?
Plural, teacher.
How do you know that the subject dogs is plural?
The word is with -s, teacher.
Yes, we all know that if the noun is singular, it
has no s to it and if the noun is plural, it has s to
it. But how about with verbs? How can we
identify if the verb is singular or plural? In these
case, it’s the other way around, if with –s it is
called the simple form and if it is without –s it
the base form. So, in terms of number, is the
verb barks singular or plural?
Singular, teacher.
Very good! How about, in terms of number, is
the verb bark singular or plural?
Plural, teacher.
Very good! From your answers, what is the form
of a singular verb?
The verb is in it’s simple form or the –s form
teacher.
Very good! How about, what is the form of a
plural verb?
The verb is in it’s base form, teacher.
Very good! From the example sentences, how
does the verb agree with the subject?
The verb agrees with the subject when a singular
subject takes a singular verb and a plural subject
takes a plural verb, teacher.
Very good! Let us have more example
sentences, but this time, take a look if the verb
agrees with the subject in each sentence.
e.g. John plays tennis.
e.g. With the given sentence, the verb agrees
with the subject because the subject, Cyrus, is
singular and the verb used is singular which is in
the s-form, teacher.
Now, its your time to construct example
sentences following the subject-verb
agreement.
(The learners will answer.)
(The teacher examines the sentences
constructed by learners.)

4. Generalization
How does the verb agree with the subject in a

The verb agrees with the subject when a singular
subject takes a singular verb which is in s-form
and a plural subject takes a plural verb which is
in base form, teacher.

verb in the following sentences. In each group,
