1. The room where the valves are installed shall have a reverberation time of 1 second or less.
2. Straight pipe upstream the valve inlet stud L1 ≥ 3 x DN1, min 1 m.
Straight pipe downstream the valve outlet stud L2 > 6 x DN2, min 4 m.
Upstream stop valve, of type gate or globe, not closer than 3 m.
Downstream stop valve not closer than 8 m.
No studs for safety valve connection within 3 m upstream and 8 m downstream.
No T-pieces or flow orifices within the same area.
Pipe support devices such as fixpoints and pipe hangers to be insulated from the building floor
and steel structure via noise barriers.
3. Flow velocities should be within CCI's recommendations. Pipe wall thickness,
especially on the outlet pipe should be acc. to CCI's recommendations.
4. Good insulation preferably a multilayer type. First a thermal insulation, then a noise attenuation insulation
upon the first layer. The second layer should be applied from approximately 3 m upstream of the valve itself,
and approximately 6 m downstream of the valve outlet end.
5. Measuring Instrument according to IEC-651. Measuring to ISO 9614-2.
If it is uncertain from which areas or parts excessive noise is emited, a sound intensity (power)
measuring instrument should be used to detect the noise sources.
Example of an instrument is Brüel & Kjær type 2260+BZ7205.
6. Corrections to be made for background noise.
CCI Noise prediction
The CCI noise prediction only relates to the noise generated by our equipment. CCI will not be responsible
for noise generated by upstream/downstream devices, expansion joints in piping or other noise sources
in the plant. All predictions are made assuming only one valve in operation and assuming no reflection of noise
from surrounding surfaces. For systems dumping to condenser the noise generated by the dump tube
system is not accounted for in the above valve noise prediction. If requested separate predictions can be
provided for this equipment on best effort basis.
