Dear Administrators and Teachers,

Since we first introduced the Nestlé Wellness Campus Modules in 2013, we have tried our best to
deliver meaningful and engaging instructional materials that help students understand the impact of
good nutrition on their growth and development.

This year, aside from continuing our objective to help students achieve good nutrition, we aim to
teach them five very important Healthy Habits that were identified by Nestlé researchers and a
Global Advisory Panel of renowned experts to significantly reduce the risk of childhood
malnutrition. These Healthy Habits have been found to effectively and responsibly help parents
establish healthier eating, drinking and lifestyle habits for children:

Choose Nutritious and Varied Options

Eat a variety of Go, Grow and Glow food to get an assortment of nutrients
needed by the body.

Manage Portions

Eat a variety of food in the right amounts to achieve good nutrition.

Pinggang Pinoy® reminds us that our plate should consist of approximately ¼
Go, ¼ Grow and ½ Glow food in every meal. We should also control our
intake of food high in fat, sodium and sugar.

Choose to Drink Water

Drink water and nutritious beverages like pinatibay na gatas everyday.

Children are also reminded to stay hydrated before, during and after physical
activity.

Play Actively

Physical activity is important for children to grow up happy and healthy.

There are many forms of physical activity – from simple and unstructured
ones like doing chores or going for walks, to structured and directed
activities like playing outdoor games and engaging in sports.

Enjoy Meals Together

Studies show that children who always eat meals with their families are less
likely to become overweight or obese because of higher intake of fruits,
vegetables, and milk. Eating meals with the family also builds closer
relationships and promotes good eating habits.

Aside from helping students learn these Healthy Habits, our modules were designed to enhance
cognitive skills and thinking habits that are important to academic achievement. By using these
materials, students will have opportunities to practice:

• Organizing information
• Comparing new knowledge with prior knowledge
• Persuasively articulating ideas
• Thinking critically and reflecting on one's own thinking
• Monitoring one's own progress and learning

All these skills are transferable to other subject areas and are essential to life-long learning.

We have also aligned this year’s materials with the Department of Education’s curriculum guide for
Health. The attached appendix summarizes the content standards and learning competencies
related to each lesson.

We thank you for joining Nestle’s mission of raising a generation of Healthier Kids, and we look
forward to this continued partnership in the coming years.
