PART 1
INTRODUCTION
Information Technology (IT) has become an integral part of the business strategy of current day
organizations. As an enabler for attaining competitive edge, the role of technology in an
organization is indispensable spanning different functions and different levels of management.
The course is aimed at making the business management students recognize the importance of
IT in achieving the business objectives of an organization, classify different types of IT based
information systems (IS) that can be utilized across the organization’s value chain, and identify
the business implications of emerging technologies.

COURSE OBJECTIVES (CO)


The objectives of the course “Information Technology for Business” are to:
1. Familiarize students with the core concepts of IT based information systems.
2. Understand the different types of information systems that are used in organizations at
different decision making levels by different functions.
3. Understand the role of information systems in enhancing business processes and intelligence,
improving supply chain and customer relationships, and enhancing internal and external
collaborations.
4. Understand the various IS related processes such as developing and acquiring information
systems, and securing them.

COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES (CLO)
By virtue of the learning gained in this course, the student should be able to:
CLO 1: Develop a conceptual understanding of the essential building blocks of modern
information systems and its application in a given organizational scenario (PLG1).
CLO 2: Evaluating the different options available to develop and acquire information systems,
and securing them (PLG 2).
CLO 3: Develop entity relationship and data flow diagrams for a given operational scenario in
the context of information systems (PLG1).
