PDEA’s proposal on requiring teachers and students to undergo drug
testing as part of the government’s campaign against illegal drugs has created violent reactions and has been strongly opposed. The proposal was made following the rescue of children from drug den during the anti-illegal drug operations. Is this really the answer to our never ending problem on drugs? Sen. Sherwin T. Gatchalian, Senate Committee on Economic Affairs has a strong point when he called for the scrapping of PDEA’s controversial plan. That instead of spending bulk of money for the program why not asked the DEPED to hire an experienced and well-trained guidance counselors to schools especially in the public sector that could monitor, deal and treat pupil’s unhealthy behavior that could prevent them from committing crimes involving drugs.
