Test Taking
Introduction
Time is precious. The varied and conflicting demands on our time, from professional commitments to
domestic responsibilities, push us to squeeze the most from every minute (Hochschild, 1997; Perlow,
1998, 1999). Yet time pressure imposes constraints that can limit exploration, constrain cognitive
capacity, and impair performance. Time pressure can reduce performance on everything from
simplemath problems (Bryan & Locke, 1967) to piloting airplanes (Raby & Wickens, 1994).
Independent Variables: Time Presure, operationally defined as the existence of time pressure
Dependent Variables: Test Performance, operationally defined as scores on the Math Pre-Test.
Estimated Time: 40 minutes for pre-test, grouping, and the 25 item Math Problem Test
Materials:
Stopwatch
Procedure:
The experimenter gathered all the participants inside the classrome and gave the briefing by
giving them instruction as to what to what to do and preparing them for the experiment . before
the main experiment, the researchers used a range pre matching design to divide the group. At
this time all participant were given the Math Pre-Test for estimated time of 40 minutes.
Afterwards the experimenter computed the scores as to determined their group. Hence the
participants were matched according to their total scored from highest to lowest, the
expirementer didvided the group into two. The Group 1 will take take the test without time and
the other group or Group 2 will take the test with time limit.
The primary dependent measure was the memory recall of the individual. The independent
variables was manipulated thru time pressure. The results were again determined as to how
many correct math problem they were able to solve in given span of time.
