Suggestive List of Non-Nepali Journals

This is a suggestive list of non-Nepal produced journals to which social science researchers
working at Martin Chautari should consider sending their English language articles in the
coming years . Only basic information is provided here since detailed information about them
can be found in their websites.

1. Compare: A Journal of Comparative and International Education (vol 47 in 2017)


Publisher: Taylor and Francis (for the British Association for International and
Comparative Education)
Areas: International and comparative education
Recent Nepal related article: Eg, “The ‘iron gate’: high-stakes assessment at age 16 in
Nepal and England” by Dan Davies 46(4): 582-602, 2016.

Suggestions: Old established journal; highly reputed and selective; seems to have a
backlog; has published some articles on Nepal; possible to send only education related
articles written in a comparative mode

3. Indian Economic and Social History Review (vol 54 in 2017)

Areas: Mostly Indian history but also covers the rest of South Asia occasionally

education in Panchayat and present-day Nepal” by Rune Bennike in 52(1): 53-78, 2015.
Pratyoush published two book reviews in this journal in 1994.

Areas: All of South Asia.

Suggestion: Old journal but not highly reputed these days in South Asian circles; it has
published some articles on Nepal; will be good to send some relatively minor pieces.

8. South Asian History and Culture (founded in 2010; vol 8 in 2017)

Areas: This journal especially welcomes contributions on other parts of South Asia.
Recent Nepal related article: Eg. “The practice and meanings of spiritual healing in
Nepal” by Asha Lal Tamang and Alex Broom in 1(2): 328-340, 2010

Suggestion: new journal and relatively unknown; seems not to have a backlog; not big on
theory dance; hasn’t really published anything significant on Nepal; hence very likely to
publish anything good related to Nepal; will be good to send some of our stuff here.
