Concrete Steel
High compressive strength High compressive strength

temperatures
Relatively inexpensive Relatively expensive

This subject provides the basic understanding that by

combining the steel bars (called reinforcement) with
concrete provide a versatile construction material
-The aim of the reinforced concrete design is to combine the
relatively expensive steel bars to resist the tensile and shear
forces which may exist with inexpensive concrete to resist the
compressive forces.
