Owen
Thanks for the e-mail and great to hear the local links that you are making on this
issue. Funds could be raised / used to improve the physical environment of the
area, including planting / community garden / additional street furniture – it is best
that the community comes up with what is required. I spoke to Andrew Malcolm
(local officer) on this work and he will arrange to meet you with a colleague from our
Green Spaces team to look at what type of planting could go into the local tree pits
for community maintenance.
I did mention the gating of passageways, as work carried out in places like
Manchester (alleyways behind terraced housing). Gating somewhere like Argyle
Walk would be difficult due to the public right of way, but hopefully work with
Community Safety colleagues might help further tackle anti-social behaviour issues
in the area.
We look forward to working with you and your community on this work.
Kind regards
Richard.

Dear Richard,
Thank you for your time also, it's good to meet with people interested in improving
things. Whenever it seems that we can start on improving the area, I can form a
residents group in my building - I also fortuitously bumped into the chair of the
residents association at Hastings House yesterday, so I can contact him too. I can also
contact the headteacher at Argyle School to update her on the situation - it would be
good for the schoolchildren to have some involvement in the area, even if it's just litter-
picking or something like that.
Would you be able to clarify exactly what we can do with the funds, and how we can go
about adopting tree pits etc? I remember you mentioned the gating of passageways -
can this apply to areas around here, for example Argyle Walk, or even roads around the
school? I can't help but think that redirecting commuter/tourist flow would go some
way to reducing litter problems and ASB - these roads are like a pedestrian's rat-run.
Anyway, thanks again. I look forward to your response.

It was good to meet with you this afternoon – thank you for taking the time to meet
Ian and I. As discussed today, there are a number of quick wins that we can put in
place to help maintain the standard of cleanliness in the area, particularly Argyle
Walk.
I am following up the level of local Community Infrastructure Levy monies that are
currently available in the Kings Cross ward and will come back to you on this, along
with information on active community / tenants groups in the area.
Also, please see attached the current Environmental Services contract specification
(2017 – 2025) with Veolia.
Andrew Malcolm (local officer) is also copied in to this email for your information.
Kind regards
Richard.
