Thank you for your prompt response.

I welcome your enthusiasm in engaging with the local community and the Council. I am
currently engaging with the Council regarding long term solutions to the issue. However my
concern is that the street cleaners themselves are not working to the standards that they
should be, and that is what I am emailing Veolia about.

When the streets are cleaned, they are never cleaned to a good enough standard - what the
government might call a 'Grade A'. We never experience that here. I often visit nearby areas
and observe the cleaners there. They do a far superior job. They are also Veolia cleaners.

Granted, there are wider social issues of the litter appearing in the first place, and that takes
time and effort to address. But in the short term, the cleaners themselves should be doing a
better job. My request is that you investigate the quality of work of the relevant employees,
as a first step in the right direction.

For example, the litter that built up during my photo diary was because one employee went
on holiday, and nobody covered him. That is unacceptable.

I would like to introduce myself as the Street Cleansing Contract Manager for Veolia in
Camden and will be addressing your concerns.

We have had similar issues in other areas of Camden and by working in partnership with
our colleagues in Street Environment Services and local community groups/residents there
has been an improvement in these areas.

I will be asking my Manager, Jason Gallimore to work closely with the Council's officer for
the Kings Cross ward, Andrew Malcolm to focus on resource and cleansing methods in the
area to improve and maintain cleansing standards.

Dear Estelle Brachlianoff,

I have been trying to notify Veolia of negligence of its team in Kings Cross, but the online
form is simply not working.

Veolia do an excellent job of street cleaning in Central London - for the most part. In my
ward of Kings Cross though, the standard is far far below that of other areas, even
neighbouring areas. They are always excessively cleaning the main roads - Euston Road,
Judd Street, etc, but the residential roads are hardly cleaned at all.
I strongly suspect that the reason for this is that the local team here are not doing their jobs
properly. I hardly ever see a street cleaner here, but see them all the time everywhere else.
Occasionally outside a pub I see an unattended and empty street cleaner trolley-thing, with
no street cleaner around. Once I saw five street cleaners all on a single road, trolleys
unattended, sitting on the steps of someone's house all smoking and chatting. Whenever
we do get our streets cleaned, they are never cleaned to a proper standard - they always
leave loads of fag ends on the floor and never clean up non-plastic mess - e.g. they leave
excessive amounts of leaves and things on the floor that have been there for months.
Because of this, the littering here is really bad - because the roads are never clean in the
first place, so people don't respect them. This is all in a residential area surrounding a
primary school - things should be kept spotless.
I have attached a photo diary I took recently of the area. I ran out of storage and so had to
stop about a week ago.
