Standard Procedure of Boiler Descaling

For descaling of Boiler DCFT recommend the following procedure

1. Fill the boiler with water, allow circulation for half an hour before isolation, and
check that there is no leakage in the system.
2. Apply heat to the boiler to a temperature of 50C
3. Disconnect or isolate hot water/steam outlet.
4. Disconnect or isolate any connections to remote pressure gauges, boiler water
sampling devices & open their drain lines.
5. Connect a hose from descaling pump to blow-down valve.
6. Venting of carbon dioxide gas evolved is achieved through the pump tank filer
cap aperture. The cap should be screwed on by no more than quarter of a turn.
This is sufficient to vent the gas, but at the same time reduces fumes and
prevents splashes.
7. Add descaling chemical to the pump tank, first prove that the water is above
minimum liquid level switch ion pump.
8. Immediately open the boiler drain valve (the lower hose connection point) to
allow circulation to commence. If water level drops initially, add more water to
tank & check that all connections are tight.
9. To commence descaling , slowly add descaling chemical DCFT- 10 into the tank,
waiting until liquid is returning into the descaling pump

10. If foam appears on the top of liquid in the pump tank then add Foam-breaker to
reduce the foaming.
11. Check the PH of descaling solution periodically. Once the PH has risen to 3.5 to
4.0 its ability to dissolve the scale and corrosion deposits is effectively spent &
more decaling chemical or fresh solution will be required.
12. Scale removal can be considered complete when bubbles are no longer seen in
the return pipe.
13. After draining off the spent descaling chemical circulate Neutralizing chemical
solution through boiler for 15 minutes, drain and then flush with clean water.

Note: This standard procedure should carry out in the supervision of DCFT
representative.
