IMRD Format– Introduction, Methods, Results and Discussion


Title Page
The title of the study:
-should indicate the topic of the study;
-should indicate the scope of the study;
-self-explanatory
-answers the questions who (respondents), what (topic of the study) & where
(location of the study)
Format:
-Title
-Name of Students
-Course & Section
-School
Abstract (present or present perfect)
-one paragraph with 4 to 10 full sentences
-can be results-driven or RP summary format
Introduction
Move 1 –Establishing a research territory
a. showing that the general research is important, central, interesting,
problematic, or relevant in some way
-(general citations)
-(why topic is interesting; importance of the study)
-(optional)
b. introducing and reviewing items of previous research in the area
-(specific citations)
-(RRL-reviewing items of previous research)
-(obligatory)
Move 2 – Establishing a niche
a. indicating a GAP in the previous research, or by extending previous
knowledge in some way
-(raising a question/problem)
-(extending previous knowledge)
-(obligatory)
Move 3 – Occupying the niche
a. by outlining purposes or stating the nature of the present research (obligatory)
b. by listing research questions or hypotheses (PISF)
c. by announcing principal findings (PISF)
d. by stating the value of the present research (PISF)
e. by indicating the structure of the RP (PISF)

*niche-context where a particular piece of research makes particularly good sense.


*PISF-probable in somefields, but rare in others.
Methodology

Materials and Collection (one (1) paragraph or more)
- materials used
- how materials collected ( can be shown in Table)
Data Analysis (one (1) paragraph or more)
-specific theories/principles used in the test/ assess the respondents or materials
- how it is analyzed?
Statistical Treatment (one (1) paragraph or more)
-how the materials/ respondents analyzed and/ or tested?
Results and Discussion ( 4 or more pages)
- with table, graph, and the like
- discussing the results with the presentation (table, graph, etc.) as guide
- judging the right strength of claim
- using location statements
- highlighting key findings from the data
- rounding figures and making generalized comparisons
format:
-procedure/justification (optional)
-location statement (if the first of several)
-statement of general findings
-more specific statements
-example/case/ commentary (optional)
Conclusion
References (alphabetical by last name using proper format)
Appendices (with label)

*Acknowledgment is optional and may put next to the title page or at the end of the RP.
Financial support comes first followed by Thanks; and Disclaimer is last and optional.
