I am Frankie Willis.

Within academics, I have challenged myself to succeed as much as I have been able,
in effort to better myself both as a student and as an individual. I have been awarded my school’s award
for being the First Honours in International Curriculum and Second Honours in National Curriculum
during junior high school. On that account, I have been granted the scholarship awardee. Furthermore, I
have received the Certificate of Recognition for Academic Excellence in grade 7 and Best in Mathematics
in grade 8. This year, I have been awarded as the Best in Physics which is the subject that plays major
role in architecture.

Outside of the classroom, I have participated in the school student organization, which is a program that
promotes community involvement, which has helped me to improve my abilities in both leadership and
communications. Additionally, take part in such organization teaches me how to balance responsibilities
of an organization with the course workload and managing the time to accomplish all of the work to the
best of the ability which is skills that will be invaluable in the future. In addition, I have always like sports
which lead me joined the basketball club last year. Playing sports to a good club level and volunteering
to organize and run sports events have demonstrated my leadership, organization and commitment.

I wrote this letter to express my interest in applying for a place on the architecture course at the
National University of Singapore. My interest in these areas was first aroused during my study at
Sekolah Mondial Senior High School. I love the thrill of solving a problem in maths, physics and everyday
life. In view of the fact that I lived in Batam, a small city located in Indonesia, where most of the
buildings were still the remnant of the mid twentieth century, I was filled with the desire to utilize
science and technology in order to improve the performance of the buildings socially and
environmentally. I have experienced architecture and arts from diverse cultures through travel,
emphasizing the limitless possibilities from the development of architecture. While walking through the
Malioboro of Yogyakarta and the China Town of Singapore, I became aware that residential, retail and
public spaces in the surrounding have an impact on the social behaviour of the people, include motivate
social interaction and trade between people.

My spare time for my childhood has been filled with various artistic activities. These activities include
drawing, colouring and painting helped nurturing me to become an artist or designer and cultivating me
to generate more creative and innovative ideas. This enthusiasm for arts and design has lead me to
great experiences in editing the accordion for science fair and creating logos for industries or businesses.

One of some reason why I singled out National University of Singapore as my chosen University is
because it is located in Singapore. Singapore has a nice and supporting environment that will surely
enhance my learning capabilities and maximize my potential as a student. In addition, Singapore is a
very safe country with low crime rates and zero tolerance policy toward drugs.

Moreover, as Singapore’s oldest University, currently NUS is placed on the first rank in Singapore
according to the Ranking Web of Universities. NUS is also one of the most well-known Universities in the
world offering the strongest taught as well as the best research, education and training centre for over
35 years. Thus, I believe that it will facilitate me to work closely with world-class academics to develop
higher specific knowledge and analytical skills.
By having a degree from one of the best undergraduate program in NUS Architecture, I strongly believe
that it can help me to make my dream as the world-class architect come true since it will give an
excellent platform for making my mark in the advanced architecture world.

Based on the reasons I have mentioned above, I believe National University of Singapore is the best
choice for me. It would be my greatest achievement if I got into National University of Singapore.
