BEOWULF

When I first heard about the title, I was disillusioned on the grounds that it seems like it was so boring
and I will simply feel extremely lethargic and tired. Even though I wasn’t able to read the epic or
watch the movie yet, I already know who the main characters are due to the title itself, and it’s kinda
common! But what caught my eye was the film, since it is animated. I thought the whole duration that
I’ll watch the movie will be simply dull and tedious; however it doesn’t turned out to be like that. I
was captivated by the effects used on the film and the 3D animation was awesome!

I like how they made the motion picture yet I'm not calmly fulfilled about some scenes, in light of the
fact that it is in some cases vicious and can influence the viewers especially when Grendel came in the
first part of the movie and slaughter the Danes, ripped their bodies apart, and drink their blood; he
even bring some bodies to his den.

“The Gods will do nothing for us, that we will not do for ourselves, what we need is a HERO!” after
hearing that statement of the King Hrothgar, I was mad, literally, it’s like they’re saying that God is
useless for them because He can’t help their people, though I know that it is just a movie.

I like the way that Beowulf offered himself to assault Grendel. He volunteered himself as the guardian
and angel of the nation. That is a nice example for us, particularly when he said “If we die, it will be
for glory and not for gold.” He proved that he really is a hero, not to mention that he killed Grendel
using his bare hands, he also killed the sea monsters notwithstanding he’s in a swimming match at
that time, for him it’s not that important to win, what matters a lot is the safety and welfare of his
people. I also appreciate Wiglaf for being a loyal warrior and had devoted himself to Beowulf.

Unferth on the other hand, is the total opposite of Beowulf because of his insecurity but then in the
end he understand that Beowulf is the man for the job after seeing him in combat, still he
initially was envious and doubt he’s ability since he lost in the swimming match.

I thought it will end in Grendel’s defeat, but I was wrong and all. So came Grendel’s mom, ruthlessly
killing the Danes just like her son, but she was no match for Beowulf.

For me, the denouement of the movie was miserable, due to the fact that Beowulf died but at the
same time I am happy for the reason of his death is to save the people of the Kingdom with no
doubts, so I guess it’s not always a happy ending huh?!
