Gas sensing probe setup

We need two sets of 40 pogo pins.

- one for drain biasing

- other for gate biasing (Connected to chuck)
- In case of two terminal resistive measurements, the gate bias will be zero.

We will use DC/AC voltage biasing for resistance/impedance/Capacitance measurement.

Software will take care of defining the pins

Software
1. Two terminal current measurement – Either DC or AC voltage biasing and current measurement

(i) Current vs Voltage (IV)

Sweep the DC/AC voltage of one

of the 40 pogo pins

Read the DC/AC current vs

voltage

Store the data in buffer

Plot the data point (current on Y-

axis and voltage on X-axis)

Repeat the above steps with all

the pogo pins

(ii) Current vs time

Apply DC/AC voltage to one of

the 40 pogo pins

Read the DC/AC current vs time

Store the data in buffer with time

stamp

Plot the data point (current Y-axis

and t on X-axis)

Repeat the above steps with all

the pogo pins
2. Capacitance/Impedance measurement

(i) Fixed voltage bias – Capacitance (or impedance) vs frequency measurement

Sweep the frequency of one of

the 40 pogo pins (AC voltage with
fixed amplitude)

Read the capacitance vs

frequency

Store the data in buffer with time

stamp

Plot the data point (capacitance

on Y-axis and frequency on X-
axis)

Repeat the above steps with all

the pogo pins

(ii) Voltage sweep – Capacitance (or impedance) vs voltage measurement

Sweep the amplitude of AC

voltage of one of the 40 pogo
pins (fixed frequency)

Read the capacitance vs voltage

Store the data in buffer with

time stamp

Plot the data point (current Y-

axis and voltage on X-axis)

Repeat the above steps with all

the pogo pins
(iii) capacitance (or impedance) vs time

Apply AC voltage to one of the 40

pogo pins (Fixed voltage and
fixed frequency)

Read the Capacitance vs time

Store the data in buffer with time

stamp

Plot the data point (Capacitance

on Y-axis and voltage on X-axis)

Repeat the above steps with all

the pogo pins

3. Three terminal current measurements

Similar to two terminal DC measurements

(i) Current vs drain voltage (fixed gate biasing)

(ii) Current vs gate voltage (fixed drain voltage)

(iii) current vs time (fixed gate and drain voltages)

4. Please use Keithley SMU for both current and capacitance measurements. It is a dual source and can
be used for both gate and drain biasing at the same time.

5. Use LCR meter for capacitance measurements and ac impedance measurements. LCR meter measures
the capacitance at very low frequencies compared to Keithley SMU
6. Use LCR meter and Keithley SMU separately if it is difficult synchronize them. Mostly we will use them
separately.

7. We may not use all 40 pins all the time. Please make sure that there is flexibility to choose number of
sensors to avoid unnecessary delay in measurement.

8. We need dynamic plotting of 40 sensors data simultaneously as soon as it read the data point or after
one complete cycle (whichever is better) so that we will get to know the saturation point of response of
the sensor with gas exposure.

9. Please try to use higher baud rates if it supports.
