Air handling units

Ciecholewski-Wentylacje sp. z o.o. is proud to present you with a modern and

technologically and functionally advanced product, namely, the air handling unit. This
device is used for supplying and processing air in mechanical ventilation and air
conditioning installations.
The range of air-handling units manufactured by us include almost every type of
application:
CW - standard application (internal)
CWD roof application (for external assembly)
CWH hygienic application (certified by PZH)
CWB pool application.
CWM marine application.

The standard offer includes a product range of 14 air-handling units of different

sizes, the parameters of which are given in table below.

Our air-handing units are built on the basis of compact and modular sets. The modular configuration
enables the units to be supplied as individual modules set up on the object. According to the destination, AHU
are equipped with the following functional blocks (sections):

• forced or exhaust ventilation section

• rough (G class), precise (F class) and absolute (H class) class filtering section

• heat recovery sections:

- cross-flow heat exchanger (up to 60% of temperature heat recovery)

- rotary heat exchanger (up to 85% of temperature heat recovery)

- glycol recovery (up to 50% of temperature heat recovery)

- replacement and dead air mixing chamber

• muffling section

• heating section

• cooling section with liquid trapping

• damping section
3

The functional sections are

equipped with devices from leading
manufacturers acknowledged on the
ventilation market. The main
supplier of ventilation units is the
German manufacturer, “Gebhardt
Ventilatoren”, which is the European
branch leader.

Filtering sections are equipped with filters made by Camfil, Eufilter, Krakfil, Ultramare.
Among filters consistent with EN 779 there are filters, such as:

• cassette filters • pocket filters • absolute filters

According to literature data

Because of the international tendency of respecting

energy, we equip our air-handling units with various devices
recovering heat from dead air and exchanging it into
replacement air. The most simple heat recovery method in
our units is using the recirculation chamber. It consists of
mixing the dead and replacement air after its prior filtration.
Heat recovery depends on the degree of mixing which is
triggered by the quality of the mixture considering the
number of people constantly staying in the area or the
dilution of contamination to permissible concentrations.
3
Standards and regulations assume 20 m /h to 50
3
m /h of replacement air per person constantly staying in the
area. The degree of re-circulation depends on the decision of
the air handling system designer, who makes appropriate
calculations according to industrial safety rules.

Another device is the rotary heat exchanger in which the most

important part is a heat accumulating rotor. The rotor is made of corrugated
aluminum foil wound up into a hub, thus a roll with a large number of tiny
ducts arranged in parallel to the airflow direction is created. The rotor rotates
in two zones: warm exhausted air (internal) and cool downcast air (external).
The rotary motion of the rotor triggers its heated part to move into the zone
washed by cool air and it gives up the accumulated heat. The cooled part of
the rotor moves into the zone washed by removed air (exhausting side of the
unit) and becomes heated, recovering the heat again from the removed air. In
this way, heat exchange occurs. The rotary heat exchanger can achieve up to
85% of heat recovery temperature efficiency. The only disadvantage of this
device is mixing approximately 5 - 10% of replacement with dead air. We
assemble rotary exchangers of acknowledged companies, such as Heatex
(Sweden) and Klingenburg (Germany) in our devices. Rotary exchanger.

The cross-flow heat exchanger is a widely used device, which has the advantage of not being in contact
between replacement and dead air. This exchanger is made of sheet aluminum plates arranged to create narrow
ducts for replacement and removed airflow. Air streams wash the wall and exchange heat via thin sheet
aluminum. Exhausted and downcast air does not mix, which enables these exchangers to be used in areas where
there is a considerable smell deterioration in removed air. The
cross-flow heat exchanger provides up to 60% of temperature heat
recovery. This device is also produced for us by Heatex and
Klingenburg.

Everywhere where the replacement and dead air cannot be mixed due to the fact that there are biological or
chemical contaminations in the ventilated area, heat recovery is executed with the use of exchangers in which the
heat transportation is made by the mediating liquid which is a mixture of water and glycol the glycol exchanger.
The radiator, placed in the area of removed air, receives heat from the dead air. The mediating agent, supported by
the pump, transports it into the heater placed in the downcast section of replacement air.

In this kind of heat recovery

we can expect maximum 50% of
temperature heat recovery
efficiency.
Air radiators and heaters are
manufactured for us in plants
such as GEA Poland from
Swiebodzice, Juwent from
Warsaw and Promont from
Swiebodzice. These exchangers
are made as the plate-fin stack
made of copper or aluminum
sheet with a set of copper pipes going through it. The pipes
are connected by supply and return collector. Supply and
return collectors are connected with the central heating or
cooling system of the object.

Due to the noise generated by air which is

forced through the generator, we offer an air handling
unit equipped with silencing section. This section is
equipped with silencing inserts made of incombustible
mineral wool 100 or 200 mm thick and covered with a
veil preventing drips from penetrating into the panel
interior and from the entrainment of wool particles.
The wool supplier is Rockwool, an acknowledged
manufacturer in this branch. We normally produce
noise insulation panels with lengths of 500, 1000,
1500 mm, according to requirements.

The dampening section provides the

replacement air with the appropriate amount of damp
to achieve the appropriate level of dampness
required by the user. The dampening module is
equipped with appropriate steam lances connected
with an external device generating steam or with the
central steam generating system on the object. At the
bottom of the section there is a drip tray with a drip
drain on the liquid trap section for arresting probable
water drops. As a rule, the best solution is to place
the dampening section some distance from the air
handling unit in the main air distribution duct in
which the flow will be more stabilized.

The air-handling unit construction is built based on the frame made of the aluminum alloy closed
section with 50x50 mm cross-section. The surfaces of the section are anodized to prevent them from corrosion.
The frame is equipped with fixed stationary and inspection covers (panels). Wall panels are made up with two
cassettes with incombustible, pressed mineral wool 50 mm thick.

The external housing cassette is made of sheet with

galvanic aluzinc coating. The internal cassette is made of
galvanized iron. The housing of the air-handling unit is placed
on the carrying frame and made of a galvanized iron channel
section with a standard height of 160 mm. The frame includes
two holes for crane or forklift truck transportation. As a standard,
flexible connector pipes are fixed on the inlets and outlets for
connecting the device to a duct network.

CWD units for roof applications, used for an external assembly, are equipped with a drip roof, intake
vent and exhaust vent. Throttles on the inlets of air-handling unit are placed inside the housing to protect the
mechanisms moving the throttle planes against freezing.

Due to the increasing requirements being applied to air processing units, mainly for pharmaceutical,
electronic, food industries and hospitals, we produce hygienic CWH units. Hygienic air-handling units are
equipped, among other things, with:

• unit internal walls made of stainless steel,

• inspection blocks for keeping the unit clean,

• low voltage lighting (24V) in inspection blocks,

• viewfinders for controlling the state of internal moving devices,

• air-tight throttles,

In accordance with the clients' wishes, these units can also be equipped with:

• stainless steel frame,

• additional droplet tank made of a stainless sheet with liquid drainage from the bottom of the unit,

• sterilization blocks with UV-E8 radiators,

• epoxidated heat exchangers.

Fan housing (in version with belt drive) is equipped with a blowdown connection, which facilitates
washing the fan.
