Chapter I

INTRODUCTION

Entrepreneurship is the act of designing, launching and running a business.

There are entrepreneurs all over the world providing people with new options to

satisfy their everyday wants and needs. Entrepreneurs are vital to every society

as they keep competition high and prices low (Good 2011). Many people and

students have new business ideas that they would like to implement but are not

quite sure where to begin.

Entrepreneurial instinct helped him escape the school-to-prison pipeline to

become a successful business owner, so too can it help other young people at

risk tap into their own unrealized talents. Entrepreneurship education benefits

students from all socioeconomic backgrounds because it teaches kids to think

outside the box and nurtures unconventional talents and skills. Furthermore, it

creates opportunity, ensures social justice, instills confidence and stimulates the

economy. To increase student engagement and success - and favorably impact

completion rates - students need to be equipped with the perseverance and

determination of an entrepreneurial mindset. (Truong, 2014) 2

If education equips students with an entrepreneurial mindset at the outset of

their careers, they will be more engaged and take ownership of their own

success. Moreover students who were involved in ways of entrepreneurial

learning were in most cases rather enthusiast about this, as they found that this

kind of learning was more fun and was experienced as more meaningful than the
PAARALANG SEKUNDARYA NG LUCBAN INTEGRATED SCHOOL
traditional ways of learning (these were the experiences of the learners that were

involved in the EU project Edison). (Polzin, 2015)

In fulfilling the essence of the subject entrepreneurship in grade 12

student of Paaralang Sekundarya ng Lucban the faculty of Senior High School

implementing an activities connected with the subject. Certainly, some public and

private schools are modernizing -- having students work in groups to solve

problems, learn online and integrate science with the arts. But most institutions

do not teach what should be the centerpiece of a contemporary education:

entrepreneurship, the capacity to not only start companies but also to think

creatively and ambitiously.

Background of the Study

In this age of educational accountability through standards and

assessments with only one right answer and success measured by test scores,

we need to keep young minds open for alternative ways of thinking, allow

innovative ideas to spark and grow, to create an entrepreneurial culture that will

grow great people and great communities. We need entrepreneurship education

for every student, every year. 3

Implementing a entrepreneurial activities in Paaralang Sekundarya ng

Lucban Integrated School has a huge impact to students as well to the school

performance. Some of the students does not have better communication skills.

Lack of education to lead an organization. Cannot determine the proper

utilization of tools and equipment to deal in some situation. Have not discipline in
PAARALANG SEKUNDARYA NG LUCBAN INTEGRATED SCHOOL
recording sales. But in the end of the activities, student learn how to make

valuable business it enhance their skills and performance.

The subject of this thesis was chosen because entrepreneurship plays a

crucial role on all levels of society and to better understand individual factors that

lead to starting a business. By utilizing the results of this research, programs can

teach students more effectively.

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE

This chapter show different related literature that are useful to the study

conducting. The entrepreneurial skills that will be focused on in this research are

technical, business management and personal entrepreneurial skill. Also the

entrepreneurial performance in operation, marketing and financial management

ENTREPRENEURIAL SKILL

The OECD (2014) determined three main groups of skills required by

entrepreneurs. Such as technical, business management and self

entrepreneurial skill. They defined technical as communication, environment

monitoring, problem solving, technology implementation and use, interpersonal,

organizational skills. Business management skill. Is about planning and goal

setting, decision making, human resources management, marketing, finance,

accounting, customer relations, quality control, negotiation, business launch,

growth management, compliance with regulations skills. Personal

entrepreneurial skill. is about self-control and discipline, risk management,

innovation, persistence, leadership, change management, network building, and

strategic thinking.
PAARALANG SEKUNDARYA NG LUCBAN INTEGRATED SCHOOL
Technical Skill

According to Hysong (2008), technical skill incrementally predicted 10

subordinate perceptions of managerial performance over managerial skill.

Referent power mediated the relationship between technical skill and both

subordinate ratings and job satisfaction; expert power only mediated for job

satisfaction. Rational persuasion mediated the relationship between expert power

and subordinate ratings of managerial performance

A teacher instructor Davis (2018) defined technical skills are the knowledge

and capabilities to perform specialized tasks. Management often needs to have

technical skills in order to communicate effectively with line workers and

coordinate efforts

Wikijob (2018) stated that technical skills are important for a number of

reasons. They can help you work more efficiently, boost your confidence and

make you a more valuable candidate for employers.

From Katz (1970s) a social psychologists his definition for technical skill

are use by American InterContinental University ( 2018) that Technical skills

involve the use of company or industry-specific methods and processes, formal

problem-solving techniques, technology systems and machinery and other tools.

Furthermore, they involve specialized knowledge and typically must be taught,

like the education offered in a business administration program or at a vocational

school.
11
PAARALANG SEKUNDARYA NG LUCBAN INTEGRATED SCHOOL
Bizmanualz (2018) state to their site that manager need the following

technical skill to be successful are the following: 1.MS-Office: Word, Excel,

Power Point. 2.Analysis: Trends, Risks, significance, reliability. 3. Basic Statistics:

Mean, Mode, Median, Standard Deviation, Probability. 4.Financial Management:

Budget, Profit/Loss, Return On Investment (ROI), Time Value of Money. 5.Project

Management: Tasks, Milestones, Work Breakdown, Critical Path. 6.Business

Process Management: Plan, Do, Check, Act, 7.Computers: Internet, Malware,

Wi-Fi, Mobile, Messaging, Email, 8.Communications: Presentation, Writing,

Speaking, Facilitating, Leading. 9.Compliance: HR, IT, Standards, Laws,

Regulations (that apply to your business) 10.Social: Etiquette, Networking,

Dress, Appearance, business cards, remembering names/dates

Business Management Skill

According to EDUCBA (2018) there was 10 Skills Every Small Business

Management. Managing budget, Planning and holding effective meetings,

Managing by wandering around, Leadership, Managing external R&D, More with

less, Managing opposite priorities, Managing diversity, Upholding personal

integrity, Learning new skills

Based from Doyle (2018) business management is more than simply telling

employees what to do. Managers must understand business organization,

finance, and communication, as well as have a thorough understanding of their

particular market and relevant technologies and policies. While managers are not

necessarily the most important people in the organization, their work is critical to

helping everyone else work together seamlessly.

12
PAARALANG SEKUNDARYA NG LUCBAN INTEGRATED SCHOOL
McPherson (2016) said that having a true passion for the business you

are managing is very important for your success. But passion alone is not

enough. You also need core business skills to properly launch your organization

and survive over the long term. You need to understand business planning,

strategy, finance, and marketing. If you plan to hire people to help run things, you

need communication skills, leadership skills and an understanding of how to

motivate and reward employees. You need a clear strategic vision for the

company and an ability to make informed management decisions based on

research and analysis of the market, the competition and any other internal or

external forces that can impact your business.

According to Doyle (2018) Acting as a business manager is a challenging

and difficult career path. It is a role with incredible responsibility, from reaching

goals in terms of sales to managing office productivity. While your specific duties

can vary from company to company, all business managers are tasked with

keeping their departments making progress and working at peak efficiency.

Based from Doyle (2018) to succeed as a business manager, you need to

have the following skills: motivation, Planning & Organization, communication,

technology literacy, decision making.

According to CareerBuilder (2017) understanding and displaying good

management skill will help to position you for a successful career no matter what

level youre're starting at. Learn the essential role that goid management skill play

in the workplace.
PAARALANG SEKUNDARYA NG LUCBAN INTEGRATED SCHOOL
Valchev ( 2018 ) states that business management skill are the following;

communication skill, sales and marketing skill, Negotiation skills, leadership skill,

Time management skills, Team building and team manager skills, goal setting

skill, Project management skills, financial knowledge, and Business law

knowledge. 13

Personal Entrepreneurial Skill

McClelland and McBer (1985) study was adopted by Mustangbols way

(2017) that there's 13 competencies need by entrepreneur to succeed are the

following: 1.Use of Influence Strategies, 2. Self-Confidence, 3. Persuasion 4.

Assertiveness, 5. Problem Solving, 6. Information Seeking, 7.Systematic

Planning, 8. Sees and acts on opportunities, 9. Concern for High Quality of

Work, 10. Commitment to Work Contract, 11. Persistence, 12.Efficiency

Orientation, and last 13. Initiative

According to OECD (2014) Personal entrepreneurial is about self-

control and discipline, risk management, innovation, persistence, leadership,

change management, network building, and strategic thinking.

ENTREPRENEURIAL PERFORMANCE/ MANAGEMENT

The three basic functions of a firm, as Heizer and Render (2009, p.4)

have outlined, are applicable to all firms and organisations; whether private,

government, non-profit or any other type of organisation. These basic functions

can be outlined as follows

PAARALANG SEKUNDARYA NG LUCBAN INTEGRATED SCHOOL
Marketing is the part of the firm that is concentrating on generating client

demand for the product or service that the firm is producing or providing.

Finance/ Accounting as I have covered in previous posts, accounting is a

vitally important function of a business. Accounting measures the performance of

the organisation as well as makes sure the income is collected and the debts are

paid (Heizer & Render, 2009, p.4). 14

Production/ Operation this is where operations management comes in

to play. Whether the organisation provides manufactured goods or intangible

services, or a combination of both the processes are part of the

production/operation function. As Heizer & Render put it (2009, p.4), this function

“creates the product”.

Operation Management

Investopedia (2018) state that Operations management is the

administration of business practices to create the highest level of efficiency

possible within an organization. It is concerned with converting materials and

labor into goods and services as efficiently as possible to maximize the profit of

an organization. Operations management teams attempt to balance costs with

revenue to achieve the highest net operating profit possible

According to Investopedia (2018) Operations management involves utilizing

resources from staff, materials, equipment and technology. Operations managers

acquire, develop and deliver goods to clients based on client wants and the

abilities of the company.

PAARALANG SEKUNDARYA NG LUCBAN INTEGRATED SCHOOL
Based from Dhoul (2018) Operations management is chiefly concerned with

planning, organizing and supervising in the contexts of production, manufacturing

or the provision of services. As such, it is delivery-focused, ensuring that an

organization successfully turns inputs to outputs in an efficient manner. The

inputs themselves could represent anything from materials, equipment and

technology to human resources such as staff or workers.

15

Anand (2018) said that Operations Management centers on integration

of technology, people, and operating procedures to execute ongoing

organizational tasks. It focuses on analyses, design, and management of

processes so the service or product is produced faster, at less cost, and with

higher quality. Understanding and improving decision-making is emphasized,

along with becoming more productive in work and life, and practicing fact-based

management.

Marketing Management

Kotler and Keller (2009) said that Marketing management is 'the art and

science of choosing target markets and getting, keeping, and growing customers

through creating, delivering, and communicating superior customer value'

According to site Learn.org (2013) Marketing management is a

combination of all the techniques and processes an institution uses to develop

and implement its total marketing agenda. Find out more about education and

careers in the field of marketing management. Schools offering Marketing

Management degrees can also be found in these popular choices

16
PAARALANG SEKUNDARYA NG LUCBAN INTEGRATED SCHOOL
Learn.org (2013) tells that marketing management is what guides a firm's

marketing plan through the use of accurate market knowledge, which is usually

obtained through research and surveys, in a systematic approach. Thoroughly

knowing a company's current market, setting realistic goals and targets,

developing new market penetration strategies and implementing effective

marketing plans within budget are all part of marketing management. In short,

marketing management is a business component that makes and develops an

institution's marketing strategy.

Financial Management

According to Xero (2018) site that financial management is strategically

planning how a business should earn and spend money. This includes decisions

about raising capital, borrowing money and budgeting. Financial management

also involves setting financial goals and analyzing data.

Also Xero (2018) site state that financial management starts with recording

all the money your business earns and spends. Accountants then prepare reports

that help owners understand the financial health of their business. These include

profit and loss statements, balance sheets, cash flow statements and budgets.
PAARALANG SEKUNDARYA NG LUCBAN INTEGRATED SCHOOL

The above literature tackled different entrepreneurial skill and

entrepreneurial performance of variety of management.

There are three categorized group of skills needed by the entrepreneur by

OEUD (2014) to success , First is the following technical skill it is about an actual

action takes by one person to meet customers satisfaction like to communicate,

utilize different tools to finish any job or task etc. Second one is business

management skill, how you lead an organization or managed it in effective way

and grow. The last one is personal entrepreneurial skill is your self-capability or

accountability to manage a business.

Three main department to measure the good performance of employees or

students. First is operation about actual process of selling of good or offering a

service. Second is financial department about computing a income or loss of an

organization and making financial report. Third is marketing, buying of raw

materials or stocks needed in your business to continue to grow.

Conceptual Framework

The OECD (2014) has identified three main groups of skills required by

entrepreneurs
18
PAARALANG SEKUNDARYA NG LUCBAN INTEGRATED SCHOOL
The first one is technical skill. They defined technical as communication,

environment monitoring, problem solving, technology implementation and use,

interpersonal, organizational skills. The second one is business management

skill. Is about planning and goal setting, decision making, human resources

management, marketing, finance, accounting, customer relations, quality control,

negotiation, business launch, growth management, compliance with regulations

skills. The last one is Personal entrepreneurial skill. They said that this is about

self-control and discipline, risk management, innovation, persistence, leadership,

change management, network building, and strategic thinking.

The three basic functions of a firm, as Heizer and Render (2009, p.4)

have outlined, are applicable to all firms and organisations; whether private,

Chapter III

METHODOLOGY

In this chapter the researchers tell how they will conduct the study which

includes the research design, data gathering procedure and other instruments

discussed. This chapter provides perspective on how the researchers convey

their study from plan to actuality.

Research Locale

This study was conducted in Paaralang Sekundarya ng Lucban Integrated

School, located at Brgy. Aliliw Lucban, Quezon. The said locale is one of the

school where entrepreneurial activities implemented which is the main subject of

the study.

The researchers chose this locale because of near location and it is a

privilege for them to conduct a research in their own school in which they will

able to have the opportunity to give something that is very useful for the school

itself.

Research Design 21

The study employed a Descriptive research provides a detailed account of

a social setting, a group of people, a community, a situation, or some other

phenomenon (Salkind, 2007). Qualitative research is a research strategy that

indicates the relationship between theory and research and usually emphasizes

on how theories were generated. As a research strategy qualitative research is

inductivist, constructionist, and interpretivist, but qualitative researchers always

don’t subscribe to all three of these methods (Bryman and Bell 2007). With the

use of research design, the correlation between entrepreneurial skills to

entrepreneurial performance of grade 12 student at Paaralang Sekundarya ng

Lucban Integrated School determined.

Population

The participants of the study selected using Convenience Random

Sampling. The researcher want to conduct the study at Paaralang Sekundarya

ng Lucban Integrated School which is grade 12 student. It has 6(six) various

Understand the need or weakness and ability of someone to work as one to

reach the goal of an organization.

Based from Doyle (2018) business management is more than simply

telling employees what to do. Managers must understand business organization,

finance, and communication, as well as have a thorough understanding of their

particular market and relevant technologies and policies. While managers are not

necessarily the most important people in the organization, their work is critical to

helping everyone else work together seamlessly.

Entrepreneurial Plan

Rationale
PAARALANG SEKUNDARYA NG LUCBAN INTEGRATED SCHOOL
Business planning for a start-up venture or an established company does not

have to be complicated. You start by describing your products and services in

relationship to it's competitors. You describe what you will be doing that is

superior to what customers have seen from these other companies. This

answers the critical question of why your products solve a significant, current

customer need. You then devise strategies for introducing your products and

services to the market. You determine the costs of producing the products or

delivering the services and the marketing costs required to attract customers.

You also plan the managerial and staff resources required to accomplish all of

these tasks, when they will be hired, and what their compensation will be.

Objective: 1. To enhance the skill and performance of young entrepreneur.

2. To meet greater satisfaction.

3. To create valuable product and service to meet customer
