Lucrecia Roces Kasilag was born in San Fernando, La Union on

August 31,1918 She went to Manila at the philippine Women’s


university. She then obtain her master’s degree from the East Man
Schoool of Music in New York,USA, where her music was
influenced by her professor irving McHose and wayne Barlow.

Kasilag’s compositions demonstrated a fusion of Eastern and


western style in using instrument ,melody,harmny,and rhythym.
She is particularly known for incorporiting indigenous Filipino
instruments into orchestral production. Among kasilig ‘s many
compositions are tocata for particularly and winds (1959),
composed for indigenous muslim instrument and western
instrumen ;Legend of Divertissement and Concertante (1960),
composition for piano and orchestra combining Western and
Eastern forms ,harmonies,and intervals; and Dularawan (1969), a
musical drama combing a dance solo with chorus and an ethic
orchestra. Her other works includes composition of
piano,instrument ensemble, and churos.

She was equaly admire in the academe as a former Dean of the


College of the Music and Fine Arts,Philippine Women’s Univirsitym.
In the culture field, she was the presedent of the Cultural Centerof
the Philippines, as well as the Presedent and Music Director of the
Bayanihan Dance Company. She also served as Chairman of the
Asian Composition’league and the League of Filipino Composers.

She is cridited for having written more than 200 musical works,
ranging from incorporating folksongin her compositions to opera to
orchestral works. She contineud to compose until the time of her
death. For all these outstanding achievements. Kasilag was
conferred the title of Nation Artist for Musical in 1989.She passed
away in manila in august 2008.
