PREFACE

The successful completion of this project was a unique experience for me because by visiting
many place and interacting various person, I achieved a better knowledge about market. The
experience which I gained by doing this project was essential at this turning point of my
career this project is being submitted which content detailed analysis of the research under
taken by me. The research provides an opportunity to the student to devote his/her skills
knowledge and competencies required during the technical session.

To the emphasis on practical aspect of management education of “SAL INSTITUTE OF


MANAGEMENT” has with a modern system of practical training of repute and following
management technique to the student as integral part of MBA in accordance with the above

Company’s profile of SMC Global Securities Ltd.

SMC Global Securities Limited was established in 1990 and is based in New Delhi, India
SMC Global Securities Limited, together with its subsidiaries, provides various financial
services in India and internationally. It operates through three segments: Trading and
Distribution, Advisory, and Financing. The Trading and Distribution segment offers
brokerage services on dealing in shares, commodities, derivatives, and other securities;
clearing services; depositary services as depository participant; and insurance broking
services. It also trades in shares, commodities, derivatives, and other securities, as well as
distributes third party financial products. The Advisory segment provides portfolio and
wealth management, mortgage and loan advisory, real estate broking, and investment banking
services. The Financing segment offers loans. The company also offers online trading and
real estate advisory services.

Mr. Mahesh C Gupta is the Vice Chairman & Managing


Director of SMC Global Securities Limited. He is Co-
Founder and promoter of SMC Group. With his vast
experience, in depth knowledge and strong analytical
skill, he efficiently assures flawless operations of the Group. His exceptional leadership skills
and outstanding commitment has made this Group one of the leading brokerage and
distribution houses of the country. He looks after the policy, vision and a major part of the
operational activities of the Group. Being in the securities market business for more than 28
years, he has seen all the phases of Stock market and handled all the matters efficiently. He
graduated with Bachelor’s in Commerce from Delhi University and is fellow member of the
Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI).

Mr. Damodar K Aggarwal is a promoter and one of the


key architects of success of the SMC Group. He has
recently been conferred upon with “The Distinguished Entrepreneurship Award”- by one of
the apex business chambers of India “PHD Chamber of Commerce”. Innovation in offerings,
branding, research and arbitrage are his forte. He has more than 26 years of experience in
Equity, Commodity, Debt, Forex, Real Estate, Fund Management and Risk Management. He
is an eminent speaker and regularly presents his views and expertise on various market
related issues through print and television media. He is also a fellow member of the Institute
of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI). In addition, he is the Vice President of PHD

Mr. Ajay Garg is a fellow member of the Institute of


Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) & a rank holder having wide and rich experience of
more than 20 years in securities and commodities market. He is heading Broking Division
and NRI / FPI Business of SMC. His key roles & responsibilities include business
development, risk management, technological up-gradation & development and
administration of day to day activities at SMC Group. He monitors the trading operations,
surveillance and the risk related thereto. He played vital role in the development of SMC’s
state-of-art web portal & internet based trading platform. He takes care of the brand building
and marketing activities of the entire group. Mr. Garg is very creative and enjoys accepting
challenges. He has been recognized for his exemplary leadership and contribution to the
industry with “Entrepreneur of the Year – Innovation in Financial Services” award during
Entrepreneur India Awards, 2015 organized by Franchise India.

Mr. Anurag Bansal

Mr. Anurag Bansal, aged 42 years, is a rank holder and


fellow member of the Institute of Chartered
Accountants of India (ICAI) and a member of Institute
of Cost and Works Accountants of India (ICWAI). He
possesses extensive experience of over 20 years in Capital Markets. His roles and
responsibilities include management and supervision of various businesses including
Investment banking, Institutional Equities, distribution division apart from legal and other
strategic functions of the organization. He is also vice chairman of BSE Brokers Forum
(BBF) and also on the board of International Council of Securities Associations (ICSA).

Mr Himanshu Gupta

Mr. Himanshu Gupta is a young, dynamic and versatile


personality and he plays a key and active role in core
strategic business decisions of the SMC Group. He began his career with SMC in 2011 as
Senior Vice President (Operations). He leads the expansion of the Group’s financing business
(through its NBFC arm, Moneywise Financial Services Pvt. Ltd) and development of Fixed
Income Securities & Bullion business. He also administers overall operations of the
company including Finance, Accounts & Taxation, Risk Management, Surveillance and other
back office operations. Mr. Himanshu Gupta is a Fellow member of the Institute of Chartered
Accountants of India and also a graduate in Commerce (Hons.) from Delhi University.

Mr. Pravin Agarwal is currently acting as a whole time


director of SMC Insurance Brokers Private Limited.
Our subsidiary company is actively involved in the
development of our insurance broking business. With more than a decade of work experience
in Insurance and Financial Industry, his key strength lies in meticulous and strategic planning
and implementation of radical concepts for the overall development and diversification of
Insurance Broking.

Mrs. Reema Garg possesses excellent communication

innovates, develops and effectively implements new ideas for the growth and progress of the
human resources, customer care and quality management functions of the company. Mrs.
Garg has done B.Sc. (Computer Sc.) from Delhi University and Masters in Computer
Application (MCA). Her keen interest in Human resource processes has motivated her to
pursue Research in HR from AIMA and is in the final thesis writing phase.

Mr. Ayush Agarwal is a Whole-Time Director of SMC


Real Estate Advisors Private Limited and a director in

advisory business, research division and SMC’s Mortgage business. He also oversees the
digital initiatives and social media strategy of the group. Mr. Aggarwal is a commerce
graduate from the University of Delhi and has completed his Post Graduate Program in
Family Managed Business (PGP-FMB) from SP Jain Institute of Management & Research,
Mumbai. He is also the member of young business leader forum (YBLF) of PHD Chamber of
Commerce & Industry.

Mr. Pranay Aggarwal is involved in the strategic


planning of SMC Group and he has been instrumental in

technological upgradation of the SMC Group.He serves as the Whole-Time Director of SMC

Introduction of the Demat Account:-

 Overview:-

 Demat Account :-

A demat account is opened by the investor at the time of registering with the
investment broker or sub-broker. This account is preferred for trading (buying
and selling of stocks) to enable electronic settlements. Almost every
shareholder must have this account to trade in stocks as required under
Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) laws. One cannot trade in
stocks without having a legitimate demat account.

 Benefits of Demat system :-

Demat account for shares and securities with business purpose

The benefits of demat are as follows:

 Easy and convenient way to hold securities

 Safer than paper-shares (earlier risks associated with physical certificates such as bad
delivery, fake securities, delays, thefts etc. are mostly eliminated)

 Reduced paperwork for transfer of securities

 Reduced transaction cost

 No "odd lot" problem: even one share can be sold

 Change in address recorded with a Depository participant (DP) gets registered with all
companies in which investor holds securities eliminating the need to correspond with
each of them separately.

Literature review

 Dr. R. Ganapati and Dr. T. Ramasamy (2007) stated that a stock exchange is an
organization which provides a market place for trading shares, where investors may
buy and sell shares. Only members of the stock exchange can perform the functioning
of buying and selling of shares or stocks. He suggested that share brokers can collect
minimum charge for opening an demat account. It can help the customers to open the
account within 2 – 4 days. It will increase the customers’ confidence level to invest a
sizeable amount in the share market.

 Dr. Dhiraj Jain and Preksha Mehta (2012) in their study of the awareness about the
services offered by the depository participant. The research was based on the main
economic approach. The level of awareness about closing and termination of demat
account was also moderate. The objective of the study is to examine the investor’s
opinion regarding charges on various services offered by the depository participants.

 Inderbir Kaur (2013), the objective of the study is to know the reasons for investors’
preference between remat and demat and to know the satisfaction level of depository
participants. In this quantitative technique, percentage method has been used. Overall
the depository is convenient and safer and majority of people are shifting towards
dematerialization as compared to the past history and study.

 Dr. Romi Sainy (2016), the study has used factor analysis to categorize the major
influences of investment decisions of the stock brokers. A self-developed
questionnaire was used for the purpose of the study. The five point likert scale which
comprised of 40 items. The results suggests that economic environment, GDP and
government policies, foreign trade and investments etc., are major factors affecting
stock prices.
 Chaudhary & Malik (2011) in their paper “Depository system in India: An appraisal”
states that majority of the participants are resided with NSDL with stake of 55
percent. Thus, it acts as the primary organization with the majority of participants in
the system. Further the paper analysis concludes that the respondents have no clear &
crisp idea regarding the services offered by the DPs to their clients. In order to
overcome geographical & time barriers formal & informal communication need to be
developed. The majority of respondents were comfortable with the prevailing fee
structure of depository which shows the existing fee structure followed by NSDL is
benevolent.

 Gunjan Munjal and Anuj Nohria (2016) in there paper found that majority of the
respondents are not aware about demat account and share market.

 Ramesh Onkareppa Olekar (2013) found that stock market in India has been emerged
as a significant financial intermediary, Efficiently Resources Allocation, Providing
strong support to Indian economy and help Investors to realize the benefits of stock
market investing.

 Inderbir kaur (2013) they found that respondents feel that dematerialization provides
enough services and it’s convenient to use.

 Jasbir Singh (2012) found that present study was undertaken with objectives to study
the investment criteria of different personnel and awareness among customers about
Demat account. If the people those who are trading but don’t have enough knowledge
about the facilities or services available, they take. Awareness of the Demat A/c and
efforts which were made for improvement of Demat Account.
 Olekar & Talwar (2013) in their paper “Online trading & DEMAT account in India
some issues” observed that the banks normally levy a lower service charges compared
to other depository participants. He also found that when the numbers of users are
more online, the speed of transactions is affected.

Research has taken more than 10 literature reviews for study purpose. Under the
majority of people are not aware about demat account and those know about demat

 In this survey 80% of investors are male.


 In this survey the age group of 18-24 and 25-35 are regularly investing.
 In this research above 60% respond are unmarried.
 In this research most of people don’t have demat account.
 Most of people like to invest in fixed deposit and insurance.
 In this survey most of investors not fully aware about demat account.
 As the survey an investor has saving fewer than 10 to 25 percent.
 According to this survey mostly investors have regular income and their
annual income below 250000.
 Most of people are graduate and post graduate in this survey.
 While opening demat account majority of people see brokerage percentage
and also company’s brand name.
 I have found that mostly investors prefer online trade because it’s very easy
and useful.
 Mostly respondents are not aware about charges of demat account.
 SUGGESTIONS:-

After training at SMC Global Securities Ltd. I would like to conclude some
suggestions that are:-

 SMC Global Securities Ltd is giving the good services that any broker can
provide but there are less people are aware about company.
 Most of the customers are not aware about the company and demat account so
awareness program should be done for the investors.
 Company should be provide information to female investors.
 Most of people don’t like the service of company therefore company need to
focus on service.
 SMCs most of the investors are working in private sector. Company also can
focus on government sector people, business class people and other.
 Company’s majority investors are below 35 years that are young people, but
company also focus on old age people.

This is the suggestion for the SMC Global Securities Ltd.


 CONCLUSION:-

It was a great experience for me to provide information about demat account to


the people who does not know about it& and also I found that people who aware
about it they are taking service about it by taking survey.
 From this study I can say that the investors are not much aware and they don’t
have demat account.
 For any investors the site is user friendly so easy they can understand and can
