ANNOUNCING SCHOOL EVENTS: “SONG OF JOY” THE BROADCASTING

ABSTRACT

In Rogationist College, many activities and events are made for the students

and school. Lack of personnel or staff to announce an activity or event results to

instances wherein announcements are not passed to all sections or students are being

notified of the announcements late. Also, it takes a lot of time if a teacher or staff of

the school visits each room in the premises just to give the announcement. Our group

propose the project of a broadcasting system for Senior High School Department the

“Song of Joy”. This project will be a lot of help to the school especially in announcing

and calling the attention of the students. Our project aims to make it easier for the

school authorities or faculty members to announce activities instead of visiting each

classroom, provide voice paging and instant messaging throughout the school area,

regardless of size, sent emergency notifications quickly and to add innovative

scheduled bell alerts and clock time synchronization.

CONTEXT OF THE PROPOSAL

Today, it is known that there are instances wherein overcrowding of school

happen due to the large population of students including its staff and personnel. Also,

it can not be helped if sometimes all students are informed about the happenings and

activities in the school or perhaps the announcement was given to them late because

the staff was visiting each classrooms one by one. In Rogationist College, which is

located in Silang, Cavite, it is a common occasion that students receive the

announcements late or the announcements are given in a group chat in social media.

In line with the effects of this problem in the school, the sound system project which

the group named “Sound of Joy” is very effective in delivering announcements to the
students in a short period of time. The effects of it in Rogationist College is that the

students will be updated with the activities in the school and also their listening skills

will be improved. According to Bebb (2008), audio technology in the school has been

used effectively to enhance listening and learning environments for more than 20

years. Using this kind of technology provide a high level of speech intelligibility and to

evenly distribute sound throughout the school premises. The provision of broadcasts

for schools is a service in which every country should find worthwhile to provide. The

programs do not replace the teacher or compete with him. They supplement, enrich

and extend his work. It will help to lessen the work of a teacher especially in

announcing and calling the attention of the students. Also, this kind of broadcasting

system can improve listening skills of the student. According to Olk (2015), sound

systems for schools are designed to ensure that everyone in the building is capable of

hearing a message loud and clear, whether it is delivered to the entire school or

focused on the occupants of a particular room.

A school broadcasting service provides training in selective and critical

listening; and it serves a communication of a teacher to students, students to teacher,

teacher to teacher, and student to student. This is a good way to communicate to many

people especially students. And help to get the attention of either a student or teacher.

PROJECT JUSTIFICATION

Our group is proposing this project due to problems regarding the communication

and interaction between the institution and students. Our project will be the way and

the bridge of communication between the school and its students.

 In the school, there are instances sometimes wherein announcements are not

passed to all sections or students are being notified of the announcements late. Also,

it is hard for a teacher to go and visit each classroom to get the attention of all students

and give the announcement.

Our project is entitled “Song of Joy”. It is a broadcasting system that will help in

providing messages and information so that all student will be updated in the activities

and event that will happen in school. Also, it can help teachers in paging a student if

they want to have a talk. This project can also help the student government to update

students and ask them to support their incoming projects and activities. Students and

teachers are allowed to use the “Song of Joy” for announcing and for special purposes.

If our project proposal will be approved, it will not only lessen the amount of

work and time a teacher or any authority in school will have to exert but it will also

check if the listening skills of a student is good or not. Our project will surely benefit

everybody.

PROJECT IMPLEMENTATION

Below is the schedule of activities in implementing the project proposal

regarding the installation of speakers and installing them in specific parts of the school.

The project is proposed run through March to May 2018. In the table below, one

column corresponds to one week.

BUDGET

Our project needs a huge amount of money. Our group will do its best to ensure

the success of the project but in order to do that we will need a hand from the PTA

Officers and the School Rector.

In order to support our budget for our broadcasting system the “Song of Life,”

we will ask for sponsors and conduct a fund raising to collect enough money for our

project. For the fund raising, we will initiate a fun run and entrepreneurial activity that

can help to gather that needed money. This fund raising is applicable in the school

and can get enough budget for our project.

Our items will be the wireless paging system and speakers. These speakers

will install in the hallway and for each classroom.

MONITORING AND EVALUATION

The project organizers, supervisor, and the lead engineer will observe the

progress of the project throughout the allotted time frame. They will check the entirety

of the procedures and processes that the workers and other personnel involved will

be doing. This will be done during the end of every phase of the setting up of the

project. The lead engineers and will observe the refinement of the speakers. This will

be done during and after the installation of the speakers. And lastly, the projects

organizers and supervisor will define the success of the whole project by the feedback

of the Rogationist community.

REPORTING SCHEME

The project status and financial report will be reported every end of the week

for new materials and expenses that can be made as early as possible to finish within

the allotted activity plan/timeframe. The project status will be reported by the lead

engineer and the project managers who will detail the on-going and the finished tasks.

The financial report will be reported by the finance manager that will specify all

expenses and the remaining budget for the project at hand. Finally, the weekly

financial reports will be compiled for the presentation after the project completed.

CONCLUSION

Rogationist College announce their announcements by room to room basis

except when they are having assembly. This announcing strategy became a hassle

for the teachers to go around the school and announce room to room, it also give some

issues that a student did not hear the announcement because he/she is not in the

classroom the time the announcement has made. This project was proposed to give

convenience to the teachers, for them not to roam around and announce. It was also

for the students to hear the announcement everywhere to avoid the cases of not

knowing/hearing the announcement made. Aside from the students and teachers

having their benefits in this project, the administration of Rogationist College will also

benefit to this project because they are still improving and continue giving the best for

their students.
